One of our local shops, Offbeat, has now been taken over by the guy who used to run GJM Records (Offbeat will now become GJM I think).
He's clearing a load of stock out (cheap!!!) to make way for new stuff, so we paid a visit on Saturday and then again yesterday.
It's fair to say we may have got a bit carried away as we managed to come away with four carrier bags full of records over the two visits. I added some 12" singles to the site last night and have loads of LPs to add.
Amongst the sizeable pile, we came away with (lots of folk)...
2x Martin Carthy on Topic
5x Topic sampler LPs
2x Bert Jansch on Transatlantic (one an Italian pressing)
1x Whippersnapper LP signed by Dave Swarbrick
1x Maddy Prior / Tim Hart on Mooncrest
2x Ewan MacColl LPs (one with Peggy Seeger)
1x Planxty (Irish pressing - added)
1x Fonda 500 LP on translucent white vinyl (not folk!)
Also a stack of indie/alt 12"s - Silverfish, Mint 400, Flowered Up, 2x Buffalo Tom, 2x Death Cult, 1x House Of Love (I never leave anything behind by them)
Can't remember the rest. There's loads more.
We are now skint but have plenty to listen to so no need to leave the house for a while...
Most records were either £1 or £2.50, with just a few at £5. None more than that.
He has tonnes of stock for anyone in the area...
I'll be adding more to the Worlds over the next few days.
Oh, and after the spree yesterday, we paid a visit to a regular folk session which takes place every Wednesday afternoon at Ye Olde Black Boy in Hull (called "The Elderly Gentlemen's Binge Drinking Club") and I performed a Motorhead song ("1916") on guitar, which I think must be a first for a folk session?
Arrived today (pre-ordered - not released until the 20th), and it's an absolute beaut!

I forgot they were from Hull.
I put them on once down in London, they were very good and very nice people as I recall.
Cool. They're still on the go - they played the Adelphi 30th anniversary celebrations week before last, though appearances in Hull are rare these days. And yeah, they're very good indeed.
Bought a Guns & Roses 12" today. Not a fan of GNR beyond the excellent 1st album but had to buy this single. The song "Knockin' On Heaven's Door" is credited to Boby Dylan, how very friendly
Just an FYI, the Spanish 12" gives a credit to Bod Dylan
Just got this very pleased, the seller had it listed as poor/good condition due to some scratches but took the chance anyway as all the near mint copies are too expensive.
Just put it on and it plays through briliantly apart from a bit of noise on the last track but i could benefit from a clean!.
Couple of quedtionsn though did Regal Zonophone have their own lp inner sleeves or would it just be and emitex advert bag? also I've got the mono edition, i assume that would be far more uncommon than the stereo for a '68 release?

Just back from holiday and a bit of Northumbrian chazzaing. Nothing special, few CDs which I've added to the site, but interestingly I did pick up two South African Loretta Lynn LPs (primarily for the site, though I will give them a spin at some point) which are quite unusual. Found in a Relate shop in Hexham. Quite how they got there is anyone's guess...!
Not added yet, shortly though...
Oh, and as it was also my birthday this week my wonderful other half got me this bit of lovely birthday vinyl...
Can't say I pay much attention to LP's these days but I came across these three for £1.50 each while rummaging for 45's, all in excellent condition so for that price I thought they were worth a punt.

Just ordered this as a treat to myself... in the Demon sale at £30 (Amazon selling it for three times that price!). Can't wait to get my hands on this...

Received the cassette single 'Life Got Cold' by Girls Aloud.
It was released in 2003, which was the last year mainstream artists/labels released their singles on cassette, as a result, most 2003 releases are hard to track down.
Still, the 2003 cassette year is filling up nicely on Tape Media.

Can the spindle be removed to play 45s with small centres?(Australian and some British and the odd Euro 45s)
I do not think it can be. It was a part of RCA and (US) Columbia's "speed wars" wherein Columbia opt for a small hole record for the 33 1/3 rpm disks and RCA a large hole for 45s. RCA felt that by making a single purpose machine, they could force the market in their direction and kill Columbia's disks. Columbia countered with 7 inch records that played at 33 1/3. The greater universality of a machine that could play any speed no matter the spindle size (its easier to adapt down with a plastic insert) was a no brainer

I don't know about all models, but the one I had it could NOT be removed.
