That reminds me...

... the other day I saw a curious item in a cheriddie shop record bin, it was amongst 10" 78s, but smaller... I'd guess it was a 7" 78: A Decca I think (only lingered for a moment) and it was a nursery rhyme or lullaby disc as I recall.

As 78s are not generally within my range of interest, just wondered if these are unusual items?

this was certainly the first I've ever seen.

We have quite a number of 7" childrens 78s on the site. Not sure if many (or any) were on Decca though. (I'm no expert in this area either though).

The labels look a little too large too

Which is exactly how Capitol/ EMI in the UK totally screwed up this one

It was a blue label with silver print, and because it was amongst other normal 78s (that i naturally assumed were Decca), I took it to be a Decca also... Wish I'd paid more attention to it now, and I can't remember were I saw it now, otherwise I'd pop back and get it.

It was something very basic though, like Ba Ba Black Sheep, or some such... I remember the label was tiny (with reference to J-Girl's comment regarding label size) it was proportional to the disc size as the right sized label on a 10" 78 is to that size disc (if you follow me); Honestly, couldn't have been more than inch and a half- two inch diameter, as I recall noting how absurd it was... in all likelyhood it propbably didn't have enough space for a "label" in the sense of a brand, and only the colour of the label, and print etched into my mind as being a Decca.

Haivng been out and about in the record bins this last month or two, there's been a number of times now I've seen things of curiousity or interest, and I've always not regreted grabbing them after!

New Policy:

Grab it, if it grabs me!!!!

The other thing that made me suspicious is that there are a number of reissue box sets with replicas of the original discs for sale on ebay now

So there is, I never knew repro 78s were made:

I can spot a 60s 7" repro a mile away, so I suppose a 78 collector could easily spot these as being repros too.

I didn't know these things existed either.

That looks amazing.
Original 78 labels when Mr. Johnson was recording were 3" diameter. These repros look like they blew it up to 3.625" or something.

As said before: These are 10-inch 45-RPM Replicas!
