I have the 1981 reissue, plus the CD issued by ACE(UK) a couple of years back which has all the tracks on it.
Some of the tracks predate their signing to Motown, and would be of interest to Doo-Wop fans, notably "That's What Girls Are Made For".
Gwen Gordy(sister of Berry) owned the Tri-Phi label, along with the Anna label(named for her sister, who married Marvin Gaye). The two labels were acquired by Motown and merged together to form the Soul label.

Anna was created by Berry Gordy's sisters, Anna and Gwen with Roquel Billy Davis in 1959, no doubt named as said above after Anna. The label was taken over by Motown in 1961.
In 1961 Gwen married Henry Fuqua who is credited as far as I am aware with actually creating Tri-Phi Records that year, but I guess she may have been a co-owner or similar being his wife. Tri-Phi existed till around 1963 when it too was absorbed into Motown fold.
The Motown subsidiary Soul Records was created in 1964 and ran till around 1978. I gather its aim was to provide an outlet for singles that were deemed commercial viable but not "pop" enough for the main Motown label.

Just one point, it's actually "Harvey" Fuqua, originally leader of 1950s doo-wop group, The Moonglows, alternately known as "Harvey & The Moonglows", a group in which Marvin Gaye was an occasional member.

Hey Henry, Harvey, all Fuqua to me
Obviously when reading my notes after a long day at work I see what I think I see - as you rightly point out Harvey is correct, my mistake.
Harvey Fuqua as you say was the common link with "The Moonglows" and "Harvey & The Moonglows", the later he formed with members of "The Marquees" when the original Moonglows group imploded.
Although I knew Marvin Gaye sang with Harvey & The Moonglows it wasn't till I started contributing to this thread that I sparked how he ended up at Motown. Never too old to learn something new.

Sadly, Marvin's marriage to Anna didn't end that well, for either of them.
