The thought has occurred to me that the circular crop for labels is something that tends to perplex lot of people, usually because there doesn't seem to be a universal inclusion of this feature in all photo programs...

... So maybe it would be a helpful feature of the image upload page on site here?

Just a simple feature whereby you upload the label image still with the vinyl visible around it, then you can just grab a corner, pull a circle down to the opposing corner, and crop a circle, right within the image to be uploaded box.

Would probably save a lot of time and bother for many people (including me- as I have to use a separate program for scanning/sizing, and a different one for crop).

Not sure how easy or convenient it would be to create a feature like this for the site?

I use an app called Shapeclipper on my iPhone. It's free, takes seconds to crop each image. You have to select jpg format the first time only and I set it to 1024 to get sharper images.

Oh, Magic you need to harden up dear boy with your "give me convenience" attitude. Hard core scanners take pride in using zillions of scans and multiple programs to produce one 800 X 800 image of a tatty old cover that's seen better days.

You and your phoney photo brigade need to have a good hard look at yourselves and remember the Scandinavian war of 1808-1809 while you're doing it. You'll probably remember it well judging by the albums you've been posting lately.

Anyway, in case you've forgotten just how tough things can be I'm willing to help you out and have a plan to help you fully appreciate the wonders of the modern world. When I'm not fiddling around doing 20-30 scans for one LP entry I often go back to the basics and practice my label image skills just so they're in top order when I enter my labels here on 45 Worlds.

To do this all you need is some 4" paper circles and a set of colouring pencils. Place the paper circles on the label and trace the details then colour in to match the label. It is time consuming and the results can be variable but a few hours of this is usually enough to get me back in front of the scanner with renewed zeal and enthusiasm.

Send me your address and I'll post you some 4" paper circles free of charge. You won't believe how effective it is. No need to thank me.

Lee

Eh... that's my pension you're talking about there Lee!!!

(some damn fine music as well, I might add!)

...But I take your point about convenience... I've been getting soft just lately, what with all this new-fangled technology doing all the work for me.

I shall endeavour to mend my ways...

... now excuse me... I've a wood-cut to render of my next album cover upload

Just be sure to use either your green or red wood chisels as is appropriate

- I've been sitting here trying to think of a word-play for sequoia for five minutes now, and I can't think of one -

I tried using the green and red chisels and blue one too, but unfortunately my monitor screen didn't take too well to it... it went all.... break-ey.

And I don't think the image stuck anyway, as when I changed the web page, it followed me.
