Is it taboo to ask photos of your collection ?
I'm not going for some kind of "I have the largest" contest, but I've always been interested to see how people manage their collection(s), how they store their records, what kind of furniture they use, what kind of sleeves they use too, for the 78s...
Anyone else interested ?
My humble collection (around 400 records so far). I use Ikea's IVAR shelves, with a small upgrade to keep the records up front and steady.
On the top, some jazz LPs, 2 shellac albums and my few shellac 12" in between.
The few unusual formats (10.5", 10"1/4 etc) are kept on another shelf on the right (not visible here)
Each 10" is kept in plastic sleeve with original sleeve as much as possible.
Jerome, both the Vocalion and the Perfect sleeve are still missing in our sleeve database, which currently contains 530 sleeves. If you could add them, that would be great: http://www.45spaces.com/company-sleeves-78rpms/
I will !
I'm awaiting a lot of american prewar sleeves and I'll check which you have and which you have not already. I will share.
I'll work on adding records as well, still trying to be efficient with scanning labels and doing proper images...Oh god...
I'm afraid my collection does no longer look as neat as yours, Jerome. It no longer fits into the furniture I have, but at the same time I hesitate to put even more discs into the garage (right now I have two milk crates full) where they are exposed to heat in the summer and moisture in the winter.
Here's my 1917 Victrola in the living room.
Here's the second part of my collection in the bedroom, including the modern portable Sylvania player with which I usually listen to my records:
I'll spare you a picture of the milk crates in the garage.
I've been slowly going through the collection and weeding out those records I really don't need to own because I probably will never want to listen to them again. Still, as you can see, some of them are piled up in a tower, which is what one should never do under any circumstances because records could crack under the weight.
Agree on the need for additional shelves. The problem is, I would also need to build additional wall to put the shelves up against. We already have shelves galore, but they are filled with books. So the best solution for me, at least, is to reduce the collection.
It's all a matter of priorities. I don't have infinite space either and some day, choices will have to be made.
So far I (try to) keep my collection as tight as possible, I don't keep the records I don't like. There was, and still are a lot of blind buys, so when I'll have enough records out of the collection, I'll start selling them.

@Kab2112, I have tried this with a pic of my (very limited) CD rack - I have others but wanted to see if this would work using a picture file from onedrive.
OK - I tried that but it doesn't work -so now will try Imgur...which also doesn't work - I have posted the urls for these guys - what step am I missing?
You just can't post pictures directly from your harddrive, you have to upload them online and paste here the URL.
Be careful, this topic is for 78s collections only.
To make pics visible here, you need to upload them to a free image server like Flickr.com or the French site HostingPics.net. These servers then give you a url address for the image that you can post into your messages here, using the following code, except write url, not orl, and img, not emg, and enter the number of your image where it now says IMAGENUMBER:
Nobody seems to rush to post their collection, I guess it'll be complicated to justify another section dedicated to pictures of the collections...I'd like too though.
I can upload your pics for you if you want to.
