How many British performers who appeared on 78rpm records are still alive? It’s a dwindling band of stars whose career began prior to the last British 78s being made in 1961 (1960 for the major labels). From the latter days of the era in the late 1940s and 1950s we still have:
Shirley Bassey
Petula Clark
Teddy Johnson
Pearl Carr
Cliff Richard
Marty Wilde
Tommy Steele
Rose Brennan
Marion Keene/Davis
Diana Decker
June Whitfield
Teddy and Babs Beverley (Beverley Sisters)
Shani Wallis
Engelbert Humperdinck (as Gerry Dorsey)
Cleo Laine
Barry Cryer
Jim Dale
Terry Dene
Hank Marvin and Bruce Welch (The Shadows)
Jeannie Carson
Johnny Brandon
Craig Douglas
Vince Eager
Dennis Lotis
Rosemary Squires
Des O'Connor
Glen Mason
Lorrae Desmond
Chris Barber
Mike Preston
Colin Hicks
Joy Adams (Joy and David)
Shirley Abicair
Joe Brown
Laurie London
Jackie Dennis
Glynis Johns
Bernie Burgess (The Four Jones Boys)
Annie Ross (now an American citizen)
Sally Ann Howes
Chas McDevitt
Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II (speech)
The Duke of Edinburgh (introduces a Frank Sinatra recording)
Laurie Johnson
But going back to the 1930s I think these are the last survivors:
Helen Clare (aged 101)
Vera Lynn (100)
Mary Lee (96)
Millicent Philips (93)
Any others, particularly from the 30s? I doubt there’s anyone around who recorded in the 1920s (in Britain).

I see Joe Brown is on the list (presumably as in the Bruvvers) but I can't see 78 for him - at least not on this site.
Am I missing something?
I think it’s because the Decca label book by Paul Pelletier lists his debut single as issued on 78 - the 7” is on 45cat here: https://www.45cat.com/record/f11185uk
However, I can’t find any images of the 78 online. That’s probably why I didn’t add it here. A user of Rate Your Music lists it in his collection. He’s on this site too, so I’ve sent him a message. It’s possible that it could have been issued on 78 and that it hasn’t been sold online in recent years. It wasn’t a hit. Perhaps some of those late 78s haven’t survived at all.
Update: the user only has the 45. So the 78 was apparently issued, but its existence isn’t confirmed.
