Thanks for your efforts JCL135!

We do Keith. But expecting members to correct the large number of camera images that are being submitted with perspective distortion - where the disc or LP cover is tilted relative to the camera - isn't really feasible. We'd do better to get image submitters to improve their images, so the editing is much simpler. So -
!! IF YOU USE A CAMERA MAKE SURE THAT WHAT YOU ARE PHOTOGRAPHING IS NOT TILTED !!

I promised I would write a tutorial on perspective correction a while back, and it has now been done. I have also written a tutorial on basic image editing to go with it. These tutorials are for Windows PCs only and they start at this link on my website. Please ask questions if anything is difficult to understand, so I can change it!

Looks good, ref: Circle Mask, you can do a rough circle and then use (second down top right in tools) to pull to fit label using top, bottom, left, right of circle. Not on my desktop to say what that tool is called.

Purposely not mentioned, as somebody was bound to think that you could use it on badly perspective distorted circular images ....

You have done a great job, well done
How about this one I’m not very good at explaining.

Thanks Getalife,
The rotate/zoom control shown in the tutorial is the latest version, so perhaps you are using an older version. But yes, you can rotate the image by grabbing the line/pointer in the circle and moving it, as well as using the top or bottom of the control for aligning the text. Personally I prefer to just keep the mouse button down on the up or down arrow, but this only works well if your machine has a reasonably fast processor, and your image isn't huge.
Tip: Sometimes 1 degree rotation per click is too coarse, so I type 0.50 into the top right value box. You can then make two passes of rotation to get the text horizontal, as the first pass gets it nearly right, and the second pass gives you plus or minus half a degree, which seems to be accurate enough.

I’m on windows 7 desktop using paintnet v3.5.4 like me old versions, trouble with updating, they change layout and other things and have to learn all over again, can’t teach an old dog new tricks, well you can but haven’t the time or energy to try as by the time I learnt it they would have a new version and so it goes on.

I downloaded the latest version of paint.net (4.0.21) when I wrote the first part of the tutorial a few days ago, as most of the folks who would be reading it would probably be new to editing and would be downloading the latest version.
But the second part on perspective editing was written for mods about 2 years ago, so uses an older version of JPEGview, and I see that there are some slight changes to that now. So I'll have to make some new screen grabs and update some of the text

People should be warned that the getpaint, net page is regrettably paid for by a Google advert inviting you to START NOW which downloads something irrelevant.
Be sure to click the "Get it now (free download)" link

I have been a paint.NET enthusiast since I discovered 45cat, and it has been enormously useful for everything I do on the PC. One thing I particularly love is that there are keyboard shortcuts for just about everything you do, which speeds up editing. Now, the only things that I use the selection box for are 'colors' (F8) and 'layers' (F7) (which you don't need for record images).
I'm pleased to see Scrough's up to date advice complete with screenshots, I would have been very glad to see that when I started! For more about shortcuts see my guide to Image Editing. A few shortcuts have changed over the years, but none that I mentioned there.

Thanks also for Part 2 with the tutorial on using JpegView for editing perspective in photograph images. I will download it and try in the near future, and compare with what is possible with paint.NET.
As an example of the latter, I found images of an album that interested me on eBay yesterday so I added the record to CD Albums. You can see it at http://www.45worlds.com/cdalbum/cd/9, including the original ebay images. Maybe someone with experience of JpegView would like to add well-edited images on that item.

That sounds like a challenge Jules, so I've edited three images (as per Part 2) and added them to the end of the hidden block. I've squared up the first added image, but the 2nd and 3rd may need changes in height or width to make them correct It is possible to do them with paint.net, but its a lot harder, and Jpegview makes the editing a lot simpler.

Thanks for editing some of the images, Srough and Getalife. Very successful edits and I've duly moved Scrough's nicely squared images into the prime positions. I'll definitely get started on JpegView this week
