A searchable database of recordings made by the Gramophone Company, and its successor corporations during the 78 RPM era
This database is derived from lists assembled by the late Dr. Alan Kelly and may be of use to researchers and scholars interested in the details of historical recordings, both published and unpublished. It contains details of well over 400,000 recordings made in the period beginning in 1898 and ending in the mid-1950’s.
Very useful database. Bear in mind, it has been noted that dates for recordings made on tape may be mastering dates, rather than recording dates.
Interesting, but Elvis didn’t record for HMV - he recorded for RCA Victor, so that’s probably why he doesn’t have his recordings listed there. Try Johnny Kidd
Very useful database, thanks, mister_tmg! I've added it to our Useful Links sticky post in the 78 rpm Forum (Part 2: Labels).
I just went to the back of our HMV entries, where all the undated ones are massed up, and looked up Hermann Diener's recording of Bach's Doppelkonzert on EH 1218, and there were the recording dates!
The neat thing is, this also works for early releases on the French Swing label because they used HMV matrices. Cf. Eddie South on Swing SW. 8.

Yes, I think because it only has data for the original Gramophone Company and HMV. So try a HMV artist (like Johnny Kidd).
Thanks - that's very useful!
It also contains some Zonophone releases - which was an HMV label. The 10" single sided catalogue numbers are prefixed X- ( the 7 inch have no prefix) and the double sided are prefixed T (as they were later for Regal Zonophone).
But its worth remembering that Alan Kelly's database is based on matrix numbers and that the catalogue numbers were added later and are not a comprehensive list of all catalogue number issues or release dates.
