Sometimes books are published under different titles. I don't see any way to link books with different titles that are different editions of the same book. Examples that I want to add: Saint Errant by Leslie Charteris (already indexed) was republished with the alternate title "The Saint Errant" in an edition I have. The David Whitaker book Doctor Who and the Daleks was initially published as "Doctor Who in an Exciting Adventure with the Daleks" (that was its official full title in its original hardcover and paperback editions before the title was changed to match the movie). No one's indexed all the Harry Potter novels yet, but Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone was published in the US as Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone and eventually someone will enter them. Thanks for any help!

Edit: No one has replied to me yet on this question, which is preventing me from adding books to the project. I have noted that the Cinema section of 45Worlds now allows "unlimited alternate titles" to be added for a movie (see this thread) and that's what I'm asking about here.

Thanks for raising this. Unlike other worlds, the linking of books is done automatically. This is because some books are published in thousands of editions, and it's not possible for the linking to be done manually.

For this reason book title should be entered as it is commonly known, and not "exactly as on the book cover". e.g. choose one of "Saint Errant" or "The Saint Errant".

For translated books, the English title is used to link all books together, it is chosen as a common language.

The Harry Potter book is an exception which doesn't fit in with how things work. It could have the alternative title entered as the "English Title".

Cinema World has the option for many alternative titles, but that would be too much complexity for the automated linking system that is used on Book World.

Thanks for the reply on this. However it does get complicated with some titles. For example, the David Whitaker book Doctor Who in and Exciting Adventure with the Daleks - the title under which it was first widely published by Frederick Mueller and various publishers in the 1960s and 1970s - was later changed to Doctor Who and the Daleks when WH Allen's Target Books got the rights to it in the early 1970s. And in the in 1990s the book was officially retitled "Doctor Who: The Daleks" when Target/WH Allen dropped the practice of using "Doctor Who and..." - which also means an argument could be made that the book's correct title is now simply "The Daleks". Which one do I use, because my judgement as to what is the "most common" title may not align with others. And based upon precedent of other 45 Worlds sites, I've pretty much been conditioned that the first publication title is the main title and any variants that come later are alternative titles.

Sometimes also the titles are so different that one searching for all indexed editions of a work may not be able to find them all here. For an example the Simon Templar short story collection "Boodle" is also published as "The Saint Intervenes" and both titles are equally common. And then there's the question of "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone" vs "Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone". Can you see where the confusion lies to the point where I feel I literally cannot add any such titles to the index?
