Is it not possible to add a "disc" (which apparently includes tapes..?) with more than one country? Many releases were sold in more than one country.

There is the Europe or International option when adding DVD's.

That's so vague as to be useless.

So is there any chance of this changing?

Hi knuffeltje,

...While I know nothing much, if anything about DVDs and issues pertaining to releases (not my area)...

(It could be argued that I know nothing much about anything, and probably would be, and likely, in fact is... but at least I know that... which is something :)

... I wonder if the Region code is more pertinent to areas of release, rather than country?

Region code is included in the entries.

I'm not sure what you mean by "pertinent"? DVD regions include a lot of different countries which get distinct releases. The UK and Japan are both region 2, but it's still pretty pertinent to know whether a given region 2 disc was intended for the UK or for Japan.

Oh, sorry, I don't know much about them as I say,

... But in theory, and maybe in practice (?), provided the copy is sold in the intended region, it could be sold anywhere (any country) within that region?

But I see your point, in that country does narrow it somewhat, as some DVDs may have been intended for just a selection of countries with a given region, to the exclusion of others, even if technically (legally, markets etc.) there was no barrier to them doing so.

It does seem like too broad a brush, which may not reflect reality if you are unable to add more nuanced info..

Well I'm not sure what admin's policy is on this, but I do hope it doesn't become too much of an issue for the site.

I take it though if it's an English language movie the one meant for the UK market would have covers in English with foreign subtitles on the movie, and one meant for the Japanese market would have covers in Japanese with either the movie overdubbed in Japanese or have Japanese subtitles. Also if I buy a USA DVD (Region 1) or Blu-Ray (Region A) I still enter the country as USA because i'm basically importing it to the UK.

Yes, that's generally how it works. But the issue is when you get a DVD with multiple languages on the cover, because it's intended for sale in multiple countries.

For example: https://i.imgur.com/ih6W74n.jpg

This has a synopsis in four languages, ratings according to four different national systems, and down in the small print there are four different distribution companies.
