Does anyone collect or document the call signs and other radio station data from the promos? I'm especially interested in annotations showing which songs were earmarked for radio play and which ones were not to be played (as per the station manager). Also, I have a particular fondness for promos from stations I used to listen to on the radio back in the day. Anyone find this side of record collecting interesting?
Hi zabadak,
Very neat site about the history and radio talent on BBC Radio through the years, thanks. My main interest in radio-played station promos is that these records were the actual music transmission device to listeners in a particular broadcast area (based on radio station location/frequency/range). And then seeing if the record made that particular radio station's weekly chart via ARSA is an added bonus.
What You really want to do Is get These they are also avaliable on CD as well. They are from a company called East Anglia Productions, now called Radio Fab I have been with them for Years. And they have a Weath of American Radio Recording's a Jingles, Idents, Adverts. All for the Local areas around the US. Have a look see what You can find. H.
I have a number of LPs and 45s with radio station stamps or stickers. A lot of them came from a massive record sale one of the stations in my city held in the late 1980s when they decided to downsize their library (and probably because they were converting to CDs).
From 45cat, here is an example: a promo for the official song for the 1969 Jeux Canada Games which was sent to CKBI Radio (Prince Albert, Sask.) and someone wrote "HOLD" on the sleeve. Here's the link as they won't let me just put the image here.
