A while back I indexed this novelization from 1928 for a film called The Fleet's In. I collect novelizations and this is the earliest one in my collection. It got me wondering when the first-ever film novelization was published. I'm not referring to magazines that included novella- or even novel-length adaptations of film story lines (which were common up to the 1970s), or film tie-in editions of previously published works, I mean purpose-published standalone books like the one I linked above. Any ideas?

Wow, that is old!

I've got one from the 1966 Batman film and I thought that was an antique!

Peter Pan/ Peter and Wendy/ Kensington Gardens etc.
Going back so far can also stray into pre-cinema. I'm thinking of J.M. Barrie's variations of Peter Pan. I know he was a character in a story very early on, but there was a play before the publication of the 1911 novel. Differences in storyline probably, but that does occur in novelizations sometimes.

I never knew they did one (though I know there were a couple of novels based on the TV show) - I'll have to keep an eye out for it!
