A statement not a question. CDs that are included in a magazine should be entered as a Bonus CD. I have just edited a few CDs that were incorrectly entered as 'Promo' CDs

'Promo' CDs are those which are sent out by a record company or artist management company, gratis, to radio stations, DJs and record pluggers.

The same consideration applies to CD Singles

Should the Disks given free with magazines not actually be termed as "Covermount" disks as referenced HERE?

I think it's a misnomer to call them "Bonus CD's" as most people who buy these magazines / newspapers buy them only for the disc on the cover. If they bought the magazine / newspaper regularly then it would be a Bonus, but otherwise the disc is doing what it's supposed to do, and that is to promote sales of a magazine / newspaper, which equates to it being a Promotional item.

I have entered them all as "CD Album" regardless whether they come from a magazine that has them on occasions or part of every magazine.

Many of the CDs that come free with magazines, etc., have "promotional item - not for sale" [or words to that effect] printed on them. If the source is mentioned in notes, then I'm happy with it being a promo item.

It is a bit of the crossed area - some newspapers issued CDs that were effectively underwritten by the label in promoting say the next compliation they had out or latest artist disc / tour.

I suppose the one copy of the Big Issue I have purchased was because it had a CD with it ( and one can look up the UK VAT regulations on when a non print thing is with a printed publication.

I do tend to think of Bonus CD as being one you only got if you bought the LP / Ticket to the Show
