In books can we have Digital as a Book Type so that we can enter e-books, Kindle books etc?
the ebook is a book format, or a group of book formats sharing their electronic nature;
the obvious place to look to choose the format ''ebook'' is the radio button where currently the format ''paperback'' or ''hardcover'' is chosen when adding a book.
the third book format option this radio button presently offers is ''anthology'', which is a mistake as anthologies are not a book format in the same way that ''paperback'' and ''hardcover'' are -
- and which ''carved in rock'', ''impressed cuneiform clay tablet'' ''papyrus or vellum scroll'' might equally well be (though thankfully, not formats adopted by many modern books' publishers):
''anthology'' is a classification of a book's contents, and compares with - and contrasts from - ''novel'', ''(single author) collection'', ''dictionary'', ''encyclopaedia'', ''atlas'', etc.
the simplest way to accommodate ''ebook'' in a sensible way would be to enter a prayer to the ruling god of 45worlds.com, o.c., to blank the mistaken ''anthology'' format radio button, wait a little while, for people to adjust affected items to ''paperback'' and ''hardcover'', as appropriate -
- and then re-label the button, ''ebook'' or ''electronic book''.
- imnsho, naturally.
- would this suffice ?
- or should there be a number of different electronic book formats to choose from -
- and, if so, which ?
(- the more specific the entreaty to the divine, the better - one suspects -

This is a very problematic subject, for starters there is maybe around 30 different types of files that can be read by multiple different devices. Presumably there maybe books filetypes published that can only be read by a limited number of these devices? Which means there is a probable combination problem for a database. (Files x Devices = lots)
BUT
there is another case for not using EBOOKS as a format. If you have a real book you can buy and sell them. With Ebooks you can't, unless for example, you sold your kindle with everything on it? I suspect that is why for a similar reason MP3s and other download files are not a type in the various music worlds.
@carryonsidney. I agree ebooks would be a nightmare for edition tracking. Also, there's the case of some ebooks being subject to deletion or alteration by a third party (remember the fiasco where an edition of Orwell's 1984 was deleted remotely because the company didn't have the rights).
That said there have been books released exclusively in digital, just as there have been digital-only singles and album releases in music. Until 45worlds figures out a policy I don't know if much can be done.
I will chime in with agreement @ppint's comment about the Anthology format option. It shouldn't be there and I find myself having to indicate hardcover or paperback in the Notes whenever I index one and I'm not sure if the definition means multiple authors or multiple works by a single author.
