The contributors page looks intriguing. How about turning it into a League Table, with say, 10 points for a record, 10 for an image and one point each for a Comment, Rating and a Forum Post! That would put Cronkey - who has been busy - on a run-a-way lead with a massive 231 points!
A bit of competition might make that page a bit more interesting and get even more records uploaded!

Yes - one of mine has already [record=2627]bitten the dust[/record] this morning (see torn label)...luckily nothing of interest/value to me...but a warning shot nonetheless !!

Nice idea Tony! Just a thought, I suspect that the majority of Sid's 78s are actually on vinyl. I wonder if we should have a box for 'material' on the Add78 page - shellac, viny, acetate (cardboard?)

Hello chaps. ShellacSid was considered - wish I had used that name now - any way to change?.
As for the 'vinyl' assumption, Jules, I can assure everyone that 99% of our 78's are shellac - only the late Mercury and Pye Nixa ones are plastic. The majority of our records had been bought new by my parents and grandparents.
For my daughter Liz's 78s4FR account, I rigged up a way to get the sound digitally to PC via an old Denon amp using the Magix software, and by-passing the Decca-Gram's internals - hence the good sound quality on her latter uploads, though it was interesting to see her earlier clips with all the lo-fi and hiss got the most hits!
Wait, I have to scan what now? Member since Jan 2013 772 Points Moderator
The problem with encouraging people to get to the top of a league table is that the site will be inundated with records without labels. I could add hundreds without scans but I prefer to wait until I've done the labels. Maybe it would work if you got an extra 5 bonus points for uploading both the record and label scans. That way, people can choose if they want to sacrifice their bonus points for a quick win or go for the slow build up.

There's probably nothing wrong if you want to treat it as a game , but I prefer first somewhere to enter the stuff I have ( noting that its difficult to do scans and I dont want to use too many labels from around the web - I have permission to use one chaps specialist site , for which I am grateful , but its not 'priority' for that one just yet ) , then to enter some items related those I have - again no scans , and often no composer credits and the A and B sides might be incorrect - using manufactures catlogues for information is not always a correct guide, and other's lists can be mis-transcribed.
I see others here are entering London , which is great and I am checking against some other lists and clearly the scans are showing different cat prefixs HL-? etc along with missing B sides ( but with 5000 or so that looks like it could be close to lifetime project ) . So as long as other folk don't mind adding missing info , like dates if they have it , I will carry on doing bits of cut'n'paste and finding audio sources direct from the disc wherever possible ( It seems that since 78world started youtube has got topped up with some of the era's tracks that weren't around a few months ago.

Yep -- part of the fun of this site is seeing some unusual coupling/ label ..and I mean actually seeing the label and not just a listing. I hate it when I browse to the 'latest' page and see only listings with no labels. Granted, I know its important to have the listings from a discography perspective, but the anorak in me that knows I may never own a particular records likes to at least 'own' the image of the label. In a philosophical way it seem to make actually owning the record seem more than a dream.
I have a whole whack of late 1940s US Vocalions that could be entered listing only (for the completeist who wants to compile the full list), but I feel like I'd be cheating if I did that. Same goes for Cameo/ Parkway stuff from the Philippines.
I'd almost like to see that any 'listing only' would have to be supported by some sort of validation even if its just a scan of an advert. After all -- anyone can create a listing for Move It by Cliff and the Drifters on Vietnamese Columbia -- but whats the proof in that!

Its not too difficult though to knock up a fake scan , I am thinking of at least adding the top half of Regal Zonophone's to my haves for now at least to indicate what of the two variations I have.

Finally completed ( apart from some I might have forgot I have and a small pile in the corner under a whole load of stuff , too much to move for now ), scans of all the 10" 78s in the household today. Just have some more 12" ones to find.
Its been a long time , but considering I first put my website together with the aim of listing my 78s some 8 years ago and never completed (started) it , its been a lot easier and more comprehensive with 78worlds , many thanks.
