Supposedly, there still is an ongoing Mod discussion, of the use or switch to square brackets vs. the round ones (parenthesis), which were used in 45cat.
Bear in mind, that on 7" singles, their use was minimal, due to the fact that only
2 tracks were presented and there was very little duplicating of tracks (different
versions).
I PM'd Dr. Doom a short while ago, concerning using round brackets in the track slots because they interfere with ( ) already used in track titles. With the addition of many versions of the same track on remix CD's, the ( ) are being overused.
Dr. Doom created a Mod Forum, taking my ideas into consideration.
If we want visitors who want to look up music information to come here, you want
this site CD World, as well as 12" World to be as easy to read. The square bracket does this.
The Mods seem to disagree and are editing everything. I was told that
[ ], are for additional reference only, but this really is only used in
Artist and maybe CD Title. Also, the iGuide mentions nothing about how
the tracks are to be added. It's a very simple list of instructions and it's
only the Mods who are giving you instructions.

GEMSMFAN - As a moderator I have to say that our 'House Style' is to use ( ) everywhere except for the disambiguation of artist names and labels
To me "Radio Edit" has the same status in a title as, eg, "Hey Baby" in "Pretty Women Everywhere (Hey Baby)", though I agree there is room for discussion
We're all keen to get agreement quickly as, frankly, this could save us a lot of work!

GEMSMFAN, I understand where you're coming from and I PERSONALLY use square brackets for versions information and rounded brackets for parentheses in song titles in my iTunes Library. The key word here is personal - it's my own personal preference in my own personal library.
I use Last.fm and I can tell you that most people on there use round brackets for tagging tracks so I'm (and you are) clearly in the minority.
Same principle here. Your use of square brackets is a personal preference but there's rules and the mods have all agreed that the house style should remain round brackets for all song info and square ones for additional info. As the use of round brackets tends to be the most popular format, this makes sense.
This site is an amazing, free, worldwide resource so I'd say it's not worth the quibble about brackets and enjoy what you do have instead!
O.K., since it's a case of a "popularity contest", and nothing else seems to matter..
it's to be like everyone else. popular it is... mods relief.. finally coming!
I agree with the house rules. A track listing is a series of track titles. "Pretty Woman" is one track, and "Pretty Woman (House Mix)" is another. They are not the same track, even though they are the same song. Hence, the track title should use (this), rather than [brackets], which should be for non-track title information.
I have added to 12" world , http://www.45worlds.com/12single/record/1t5051442823301.
Which I have used () for the remix titles , but one of which has something that looks like [ ] within the title , in this case for enclosing the word 'extended'. The actual bracket typeface is the straight vertical with the bendy top and bottom , which is not a normal keyboard character , but I think is on extended typefaces.
