After I Love Lucy ended as a weekly series in the spring of 1957, Ball, Arnaz and the other core cast continued to play the characters for a series of one-hour specials titled The Lucille Ball-Desi Arnaz Show that aired more or less monthly during the 1957-1958 season. Additional special episodes under this title aired from 1958 to 1960 as part of the anthology series Westinghouse Desilu Playhouse. The 1958-60 series was considered a separate production to I Love Lucy, though recent DVD release has retitled these programs I Love Lucy.

Pioneering sitcom that was one of the first to be filmed for later marketing to syndication at a time when most such series were broadcast live. As a result unlike the vast majority of network series produced in the early 1950s, all episodes of I Love Lucy survive. It was one of the first series to find renewed success in syndicated reruns, setting the pattern for series remarketing that is still followed today.

23skidoo ● 9th Jun 2015		One other bit of trivia: it has been acknowledged that without I Love Lucy there would have been no Star Trek. Based on the success of this series, Ball and Arnaz established Desilu Studios, which continued after their divorce with Ball in charge. Desilu produced the first season of Star Trek and the book Inside Star Trek credits Ball with convincing the network to give the series a chance. Desilu also produced Mission: Impossible when it first started.
