Notes

Date range for broadcast based upon first UK showing as listed in "The Complete Gerry Anderson: The Authorised Episode Guide," however some regions did not see the final episode until as late as 1973.

A second season was planned but not produced due to the show's failure to find an audience in US syndication. Concepts planned for the second season were later adapted for Space: 1999.

Great memories of staying at my Auntie's in Bedfont in the early 1970s. Sat in front of her TV with my Interceptor and SHADO Mobile watching this amazing show. And then the search for the little rocket fired from the Mobile, behind the telly, behind the couch......

@The Flea "Without a doubt the best Sci-Fi programme out there at the time. Still great to watch even now." - I bought the DVD set on a blind-buy and expected it to be all purple wigs and camp but was very impressed to see that it was actually quite a straight-laced show. There were some elements that betrayed Anderson's Supermarionation origins, but this show had some surprisingly adult episodes. There's one where Straker strongly considers having an affair with a reporter, and another where he has to make the decision to save his son's life or engage the aliens in their plot-of-the-week. Very strong stuff. I can understand why programmers were left utterly confused by this show in 1970; they expected a live-action Thunderbirds/Capt. Scarlet and what they got was actually a very adult (for its time) series. Space: 1999 ran into the same jackpot a few years later (in that case they tried to kiddify it later), as did Space Precinct in the 1990s (it had some very dark episodes but viewers in the pre-Farscape era couldn't see beyond the puppets and guys wearing weird masks). Gerry Anderson was a case of a producer being typecast.

 Best! Theme! Ever!

Where to start with this wonderful programme! The three main actors are all now sadly deceased, so that second series will now not be made. There was talk, about 10 years ago, about a film version but that has yet to materialise.

My ideal cast would be:

Ed Straker - George Clooney
Alec Freeman - Ray Winstone
Paul Foster - Clive Owen
Peter Carlin - Idris Elba
Gay Ellis - Keira Knightley
General Henderson - Barry Corbin
Melanie (the "Ayshea" character) - Melanie Sykes
Stephen Hawking - the voice of S.I.D.
