Children's Ward (1989 - 2000)
Another classic kids series, written by none other than Paul Abbott (later creator of Shameless) and Kay Mellor (Band Of Gold et al). Was briefly known as simply "The Ward".

Naked City (1993 - 1994)
This might have started in 1992 rather than 1993? Anyone know? Can't find any titles for it althought there are a few clips of live stuff on YT.

I remember this vaguely, and I know I watched it, but can't remember much about it.

This was superb. Another corker from the BBC. Here's the trailer...

Press Gang (1989 - 1993)
Genuinely brilliant and almost certainly one of the best children's TV series ever made. They don't make them like this one anymore...

Playing The Field (1998 - 2002)
I really liked this, though I don't think I saw all of them. But what I saw I thought was actually pretty good drama.

Pop Quiz (1981 - 1994)
I actually watched some of these on YT a short while ago, they were very dated (unsurprisingly) but quite entertaining...

There was a card game that came out of this that my brother had. We played it loads. There was also a computer game version. Possibly a board game too?

The Johnny Cash Show (1969 - 1971)
JC also had Pete Seeger on the show, despite the fact that Seeger was blacklisted at the time.

Unfortunately there are other reasons why this isn't really suitable for clips. It was fantastic though.

I auditioned for this once with a team from work that included our MD and another director. Both of them got the boot from the company shortly after the audition and that was the end of that!

Big Break (1991 - 2002)
John Virgo came in the pub my ex worked in many years ago, with Jimmy White. They were very generous tippers apparently! Some years later I went to the opening night of a new Riley snooker club - Virgo was the special guest and played a few frames with local amateur players. You could hardly see tho as there were so many people crowded round the table! Good night tho and I did say hello to JV when he arrived.

As for Jim Davidson...no comment.

That's Life! (1973 - 1994)
Terrible programme, though it does always remind of a radio parody of it by Victor Lewis-Smith which still makes me crease:

Esther (purportedly): "Adrian's found a funny headline in the newspaper haven't you Adrian?"
Adrian: "Yes! It says 'Have a fart in b*'ll*cks!'"
Esther: "Oh haha! And what should it say, Adrian?"
Adrian: "It should say - 'ave 'oliday in Blackpool!"

You maybe had to be there

I share your feelings re Bruce Forsyth. Can't abide the man to be honest.

And as for Jim Davidson... surely somebody must have SOMETHING on him? Please?!

Queer As Folk (1999 - 2000)
Groundbreaking and genuinely brilliant drama from the pen of Russell T Davies.

I watched it all again a couple of years back on DVD - it was still compelling viewing. Hugely controversial at the time of course due to the often graphic sexual content (controversial mainly in repressed middle England I should imagine), a fact that did it absolutely no harm at all in publicity terms.

If you've never seen it, you really should. Excellent stuff.

Attachments (2000 - 2002)
Can't find any clips/titles for this anywhere so have had to use the VHS cover as the image (never released on DVD as far as I can tell).

I was a big fan of this series (a drama set at an internet start-up company) but it seems to have been largely forgotten now - very much "of its time" perhaps?

Ashes To Ashes (2008 - 2010)
After the brilliance of Life On Mars I just couldn't get on with this cash-in, sorry I mean "follow-up"...

I know many people loved it but for me it was too contrived and just didn't have the sparkle of Life On Mars.

Ho hum.

Good Cop (2012)
Superlative British cop drama. I really enjoyed this. Four parts, one series.

The final part was postponed following the Dale Cregan incident in Manchester where two British police officers were shot and killed for real - for that reason (and understandably) part four screened the month after its original scheduled date.

Here's the trailer...

I quite liked Griff Rhys Jones until he went all Tory a year or so back (whinging about the so-called mansion tax). You can go right off a chap...

Arena (1975 - Now)
I saw an excellent Arena documentary about Hank Williams some years ago, which I watched purely because it was about music - at the time I knew very little about him. Thanks to that documentary I am now a massive confirmed fan of Hank.
