A few more thing learned recently: Don't Mess Around and The Wobble were covers of singles originally recorded by the Orioles. I don't know if any of the others originated from elsewhere other than the well known tracks at the start; "Hugh" is an original instrumental the group also recorded for Orfeon in Mexico around the same time.

Added reissue cover back variant. Cover front identical to image #965325. Labels got M/T tax code but no rim text inside the rim circle. My guess it's late 1960's issue.

Sorry WM, I don't know for sure, but I note that Michael de Looper's London listing has this as March 1957, so Michael might like to chime in here if he's lurking? The matrix numbers XLON1 and XLON2 might be a clue - I note that in 45cat, the 7XLON matrices seem to have started appearing on labels in early 1957, and I found some fairly low 2-digit numbers there, so presuming that LPs and singles used the same numerical series, then it looks like this series started in 1957.

Discogs has this at 1957, but I think it’s more like 1955 because the London release of Green Tree Boogie on 45 was ‘55 and the UK releases on London were also around this date. Phil? Any ideas on this?

Here's a TV ad for the album from 1976 (uploaded to Youtube by the person who designed the commercial). The 1977 date originally placed here was a guess, so I have submitted a correction to change it to 1976. This might be for the US release of this album, which I don't believe has been indexed yet.

This is NOT on the Transatlantic label. It is on the XTRA label. It is certainly true that XTRA belonged to Transatlantic but it had a very different profile and exists in its own right in the database.

Although the tracks all date from the 1950s, the cover photo of the Comets came from a 1968 UK TV appearance; only the sax player and Haley of course appear on any of the recordings.
