jaimeeduardo 26th Jan 2014 | | Vinyl AlbumMaria Callas / Renata Tebaldi - I Grandi Interpreti (1963) | Disc title from container.
An interesting pairing on one disc of two supposed opera rivals. At the time this disc was issued, listeners were often outspoken in support of one soprano or the other.

jaimeeduardo 24th Jan 2014 | | Vinyl AlbumAl Reyes - California Corazón | Published ca. 1980.
Catalogue no. appears only on container spine.
B1 is the best selection. Interesting is the use of interview tapes mixed with the guitar and vocal of Reyes. The songs capture the mood/the issues facing Chicanos at the time. Though social commentary is emphasized here, Chicano Man is also most relaxing and worth repeated hearings.

jaimeeduardo 24th Jan 2014 | | Vinyl AlbumVarious Artists - Stunde Der Stars 2 (1972) | The Ricky Shayne song In Chicago is a German language cover of the original Elvis Presley version. It's well done.
This disc was produced for the 1972 Olympics in München (Munich).
|
jaimeeduardo 24th Jan 2014 | | Vinyl AlbumVarious Artists - Das waren Hits (1972) | Disc says "Made in Holland" and STEMRA appears on label; container says "Made in Germany." Since disc was purchased in Germany and most information is in German (other than the English titles), I coded the country as Germany.
This disc has superior sound qualities. I transferred all the tracks to my MP3 player and the sound quality is superb.
|
jaimeeduardo 23rd Jan 2014 | | Vinyl AlbumVarious Artists - Estrellas De Oro (1978) | The Lolita on A2 is the one born 1958. She is the daughter of Lola Flores, a famous Spanish entertainer.
|
jaimeeduardo 23rd Jan 2014 | | Vinyl AlbumLolita - Unvergessene Melodien (1963) | Orthography varies slightly on container for track B4: Weil ich weiss, du kommst wieder.
Roter Mohn is one the songs played in my high school German class. I remember it clearly because there was some confusion about Mohn and Mond, which sound so similar. (The title means Red Poppy rather than Red Moon). It's always been my favorite Lolita song, a beautifully sad tango (written in 1938) evoking the image of the poppy that loses its beauty overnight.
The entire disc is of "unforgotten melodies" that are sure to appeal to those with an interest in German popular (mostly film) music of the 1930s and 1940s. This recording is all new (in 1963), with excellent sound characteristics.
This Lolita (1931-2010) is Ditta Zusa Einzinger. She was an Austrian native.
|
jaimeeduardo 23rd Jan 2014 | | Vinyl AlbumLolita - Sailor, Sailor (1961) | Original German title for A1: Seemann, deine Heimat ist das Meer.
Sailor (Your Home Is the Sea) is one of those rare pop songs in a foreign language that charted in the U.S. in that era. Sailor reached Billboard #5 in 1960.
The U.S. hit version of Sailor contains an English language (American) verse spoken over the German vocal. The original recording is all in German. Both versions have been issued in digital form. Buyer be aware.
Parallel titles in English or German on container:
A1 Seeman [i.e. Seemann]
A2 The Moon
A4 Memory of Love
B4 The Wide World Outside
B5 When the Southwind Blows
B6 My Ship Is Called Homesickness
The album presents a couple fine songs by Lolita, but others seem to be fluff– fillers that don't show the best Lolita has to offer,
This Lolita (1931-2010) is Ditta Zusa Einzinger.

jaimeeduardo 22nd Jan 2014 | | Vinyl AlbumLiane - Liane Sings German Cabaret Songs Of The '20's With The Boheme Bar Trio (1961) | This is one of several entertainers with the name Liane. This one is Liane Augustin (18 November 1927 – 30 April 1978) according to Wikipedia.
Though tracks are indicated on the labels, the sides have no visible tracks and the selections play like a complete nightclub act, without specific breaks.
This is one of my favorite LPs. Liane's soft, pleasant voice and intimate manner make these sentimental songs unforgettable.
Library of Congress Control No.: 71763002
Probably published in the 1950s.
|
jaimeeduardo 22nd Jan 2014 | | Vinyl AlbumKirsten Flagstad - Beethoven • Wagner • Weber (1966) | Track A1 is a concert aria; the remainder are arias from operas.
Disc title from container.
Recorded 1935-1937.
"Legacy Series."
Flagstad lived from 1895-1962. Her opera star status began at age 40 when she debuted at the Metropolitan Opera in New York (the same time as these recordings).
Ah! perfido (A1) is one of my Flagstad favorites. The liner notes (by John Parry) describe her voice as one of "beauty, nobility and power." It seems odd to use the word "noble" to describe the sound of a voice, but that is just the feeling one gets when listening to Flagstad in this aria. The pure, soaring, diamond clear sound is always magical. All these tracks are transcribed from 78rpm discs, so one would probably need to hear those original discs to really hear them best. Some of these recordings seem to lose their power when transferred to CD, and LPs likewise differ in sound quality.

jaimeeduardo 21st Jan 2014 | | Vinyl AlbumPeter Kreuder - Verträumte Stunden mit Peter Kreuder | Transcribed track titles from labels are in modified German orthography. Container titles are in standard German, as follow:
A1 Man müßte Klavier spielen können
A2 Ich tanze mit dir in den Himmel hinein
A3 Komm zurück
A4 So stell' ich mir die Liebe vor
A5 Madonna du bist schöner als der Sonnenschein
A6 Parlez-moi d'amour
A7 Heimat, deine Sterne
B1 Wenn die Sonne hinter den Dächern versinkt
B2 Ramona
B3 Du gehst durch alle meine Träume
B4 Zwei Herzen im Dreivierteltakt
B5 Schöner Gigolo
B6 Schlafe ein, mein Blond-Engelein
B7 Frag nicht, warum ich gehe
Note on performer entry:
Although the label reads "Peter Kreuder und seine Solisten" (Peter Kreuder and his soloists), this doesn't seem to be the name of a group, but rather a generic credit to unnamed musicians, so I didn't enter the phrase as a performer's name. Sometimes performer data is transcribed in 45Worlds in too literal a fashion that makes little sense, as would be the case in this instance.
