johnnyhotspur 17th Dec 2023		Vinyl Album Marvin Gaye - Marvin Gaye's Greatest Hits (1968)	This mono LP also contains the first take of 'One More Heartache'. Different from the stereo LP version. From Motown Junkies: One interesting point that maybe worth mentioning is the version of ‘One More Heartache’ on the mono version UK release of Marvin’s Greatest Hits album TML11065 has a completely different recording of this song to any other I’ve heard on any other record or CD. It is not a different mix as Marvin’s vocal is completely different, in fact he sounds rather laid back and indifferent on this version. The backing track is also different and sounds weaker and slightly muffled. This version is only on the mono version of the album. The stereo version, STML11065, is the usual recording. I’m not sure whether this was corrected in later pressings of the mono album as the version I have was bought just after its release in March 1968 and has matrix/stampers -1 G indicating first pressing. As I have never had a copy of the US mono version of Marvin’s Greatest Hits, T278, I wonder if this also has the different recording of ‘One More Heartache’. It may be a cock-up by EMI who may have used the wrong recording of ‘One More Heartache’ when assembling the album as it had a different track listing to the US version. If so they may have corrected in on later masters as the album was available in mono until late 1970. Is anybody else aware of this anomaly?

It's an expensive one to buy and I grabbed it first chance I could from Camden Town during the very early 90's for £12, creased cover and marked vinyl, a bit crackly. There's a G+ copy for £70 on Discogs!!! The 1995 re-press on the Trojan label is up for sale at a staggering £150 on ebay!!! I have that one too, I don't believe I paid more than a Lady for that.

Cover features a bikini clad female collecting shells (ala 'Dr. No?). Pity the photographer forgot to remove the lens!! No, seriously, not a very good cover at all.

Exceptions are: A4 'Peanut Baby', B4 'Deep River' which does not play the 45 of the same name but a boss instrumental take on 'Cecilia' and B5 'Willy My Darling' is titled 'Come With Me' on the label and I'm fairly sure is the correct name.
