Juke Jules SUBS 14th Nov 2020		Vinyl Album John McCutcheon - How Can I Keep From Singing? (1975)	This is the first time I have become aware of John McCutcheon, but he has a long history of recording and is widely represented on YouTube. The title track is his arrangement of the Pete Seeger song, recorded as a tribute to his late friend. Seeger has adapted this from a 19th century hymn by Robert Lowry My Life Flows on in Endless Song (How Can I Keep From Singing?) This recording is not yet on YT but do watch him sing this later evocative recording which he made with the collaboration of several folk artists including Peggy Seeger [YouTube Video]

The style of Someone You Love reminds me of Tracy Chapman or Lana Del Ray singing about broken dreams and unrealisable hopes [YouTube Video]

Juke Jules SUBS 1st Mar 2020		Vinyl Album Klaus Renft-Combo - Renft (1976)	'Als ich wie ein Vogel war' seems to be typical of their work at the time, longing for the Freedom of the birds. The band was summoned to play before the cultural committee who decided which bands should have a licence to play in the DDR but their work was too subversive to get past the Stazi, particularly the works of Kurt Demmler, and they were informed there was no problem with their licence, just that the band no longer existed. After the opening of the Brandenburg Gate the band re-formed and became popular in the unified Germany [YouTube Video]
