LaurenceD SUBS 27th Sep 2020		Vinyl Album Various Artists - Country Greats	The tracks on disc 1 (except for The Jordanaires) are a mixture of A and B sides from Columbia singles released between August and November 1965 inclusive. Each track on disc 2 is followed by a locking groove.

LaurenceD SUBS 20th Aug 2020		Vinyl Album Mark Slade - Mark Slade's New Hat (1969)	Issued in a gatefold sleeve, and included a life-size 2' X 6' poster. I don't want to be too hard on Mark, but to describe him as a singer would be quite charitable... My favorite tracks are A6 (has whistling instead of singing) and B6 (instrumental). And then there is track B2: "Are They Gonna Shoot God?" [YouTube Video]
LaurenceD SUBS 2nd Aug 2020		Vinyl Album Merv Griffin - Merv Griffin's Dance Party (1961)	From Billboard May 8, 1961 article p.7 "Carlton To Release Three Album Lines With Special Deals": The label is releasing this week a "Charanga" LP with Merv Griffin ... Griffin will plug the album on his New York TV show and offer the "Charanga" set to his fans for only $2 by mail. Merv's "Charanga" single (Carlton 545) spent 4 weeks on the Billboard charts, peaking at #69. It looks like that was not enough to rescue this LP from obscurity...

LaurenceD SUBS 10th Jul 2020		Vinyl Album The Romancers [L.A., 60s] - Let's Do The Swim (1964)	Second album by The Romancers; also the first (and apparently only) release on the Selma label (a subsidiary of Del-Fi, whose address was 6277 Selma Ave. Hollywood). Release date estimated based on delta numbers. When I first looked at the runout info, I wondered if the labels had been put on the wrong sides. But they are correct. One title track discrepancy on B5: label has "Peanut Butter And Jam", cover has "Dog Paddle". No telling which is correct, since these are all instrumentals, as was the case with the "Slauson" LP. The reason why both LPs contain only instrumentals is kind of a long story, but it boils down to a legal dispute between the Del-Fi and Magic Circle labels over the rights to Max Uballez (he had released a record as Maximilian on Magic Circle, and then another one as Max Uballes on Donna). IIRC the end result of the dispute was that Max was prohibited from singing on any releases for five years.
LaurenceD SUBS 7th Jul 2020		Vinyl Album The Don Ellis Orchestra - 'Live' At Monterey (1967)	The 1966 Monterey Jazz Festival took place on Sept 16-18 (Fri-Sun). Don Ellis performed on Sunday afternoon. This LP was my introduction to Don Ellis and is still one of my favorites.

LaurenceD SUBS 2nd Jun 2020		Vinyl Album Live [70's] - Live (1974)	One of a pair of self-released LPs by this group, both recorded at the same venue. The location of the Beef and Barrel is not mentioned, but it may be the one in Schaumburg IL, which was operating in 1974, and had live music. These same four performers also participated in the making of an LP by Byron Keith Daugherty titled "Back Door Man" on Stanza, ca. early 1975

LaurenceD SUBS 25th May 2020		Vinyl Album Richard And Willie - Red White And Blue From A Black Point Of View (1976)	I remember seeing this 'duo' back in the day; it might have been on the Flip Wilson show. Compared with this recording, they had to clean up their routine considerably for network TV.
