Lee Wrecker 30th Nov 2024 | | Vinyl AlbumOlivia Newton-John - Physical (1981) | If anyone has paid A$184 for this album, as it is valued here, I'd love to meet them... I have few LPs for sale myself. Seriously, this is a A$5 - $10 album and is widely available at this price on line.

Lee Wrecker 30th Nov 2024 | | Vinyl AlbumVarious Artists - Tommy (1975) | Pardon me for valuing this one a little high at $15 but the vinyl is pressed well and the overall package is solid. Seems to me that while this album had some critical acclaim and good reviews it is just not sought after in Australia. Does it do better elsewhere or is it a "thing" with this album.
I must admit the only thing I play off this is Elton John's version of Pinball Wizard.

Lee Wrecker 24th Nov 2024 | | Vinyl AlbumThe Stooges - Fun House (1971) | The date on this should be 1971 judging by the labels. Elektra only used the solid blue background labels in 1971. The cover that loadedcat has uploaded does not match and may have been switched at some point. There were two Australian releases of this album in the 70's this one in '71 and another in '78. Both these releases, as was customary in Australia, had the gatefold reduced to a standard single cardboard sleeve. So this gatefold cover may be a US cover as the cat#s were the same in both countries. That aside the date on this is definitely 1971 and I'll send a correction.

Lee Wrecker 13th Nov 2024 | | Vinyl AlbumDr. Feelgood - Fast Women & Slow Horses (1982) | Linked to the primary Australian entry for this record. Still no Chiswick UK issue posted which should be the primary release when it surfaces.

Lee Wrecker 12th Nov 2024 | | Vinyl AlbumDonovan - Cosmic Wheels (1973) | Linked to UK primary release. The best hippy 60's album made in the 70's? Could be?
|
Lee Wrecker 12th Nov 2024 | | Vinyl AlbumMatchbox And The A.P.G. - The Great Stumble Forward (1976) | The gatefold on this one is actually vertical rather than horizontal. You know, so that when you turn it to read it the record falls out on the floor. I have rotated both the gatefold images here 90 degrees for ease of viewing.

Lee Wrecker 12th Nov 2024 | | Vinyl AlbumGilbert Bécaud - Bécaud (1979) | Added a full set of scans for this entry. The labels on my copy do not show the initials of the composer just the surname but information is all correct. Is it worth fussing over? Anyway, hats off to LouisSidney for doing the original entry and I hope you like my scans.

Lee Wrecker 11th Nov 2024 | | Vinyl AlbumStan Ridgway - The Big Heat (1986) | @RecordDragon apparently this was released worldwide on I.R.S. except for Spain where it was released on Epic and Illegal. Check out the labels on the link and you will see that they match. A great album by the way.

Lee Wrecker 11th Nov 2024 | | Vinyl AlbumJean-Michel Jarre - Oxygene (1977) | Added cover shot for moderation on my entry here. Nods to oneself - now I need a chiropractor.
|
Lee Wrecker 10th Nov 2024 | | Vinyl AlbumThe Electric Prunes - The Release Of An Oath (1968) | Similar to the USA release in that it shares the same cat# and that the first pressings had the two tone Reprise label.

Lee Wrecker 10th Nov 2024 | | Vinyl AlbumSlade - Slade Alive (1972) | Full set of scans added for evaluation and shuffling about if needed.

Lee Wrecker 10th Nov 2024 | | Vinyl AlbumThe Everly Brothers - The Very Best Of The Everly Brothers (1964) | In print from 1964! Phew, we could get a fair swag of Warner label designs on this entry. The ones I have supplied are the "Burbank" labels that were in use between '73 and '76.

Lee Wrecker 9th Nov 2024 | | Vinyl AlbumEric Burdon And War - Eric Burdon Declares "War" (1970) | Have put up new cover shots for moderation. With a nod to my good self.

Lee Wrecker 9th Nov 2024 | | Vinyl AlbumThe Everly Brothers - The Very Best Of The Everly Brothers (1964) | Have a 70s Burbank label version will upload shortly and start the images for this one.
|
Lee Wrecker 9th Nov 2024 | | Vinyl AlbumSlade - Slade Alive (1972) | I'll do a full set of scans for this - the first record I bought with my own money - and the last one I bought today. Couldn't turn down a pristine copy for $5 just for the sake of nostalgia. I bet this one sounds better than all the re-issues that just invaded the shops.

Lee Wrecker 9th Nov 2024 | | Vinyl AlbumSimon And Garfunkel - Bridge Over Troubled Water (1970) | Just picked one up with a better cover on orange CBS labels but Ill check them out when it's off the stereo. Will upload cover soon for moderation.

Lee Wrecker 2nd Nov 2024 | | Vinyl AlbumSandy Denny - Gold Dust (2022) | All Record Store Day releases are international and released simultaneously worldwide through a network of independent bricks and mortar stores. They are all international and always have been. You can visit the Record Store Day website to find out more but these limited run global releases.

Lee Wrecker 24th Oct 2024 | | Vinyl AlbumTISM - Great Truckin' Songs Of The Renaissance (1988) | This one has doubled in value since the band recently reformed and don't do smack anymore.
|
Lee Wrecker 21st Oct 2024 | | Vinyl AlbumWings - London Town (1978) | Could we have some clarity on how to deal with the MPL label. The ad on this page clearly shows MPL as the label. There is no mention of Parlophone on this page anywhere except for where we have in our wisdom decided to make that the label. It seems this is the case on the site with all UK McCartney/Wings releases from the mid 70's which were all released on MPL. Am I missing something here as it seems odd to me why we list these albums differently to elsewhere on the net.
|
Lee Wrecker 21st Oct 2024 | | Vinyl AlbumWings - Wild Life (1978) | Should we have a separate entry for the original 1971 Apple release. The label images supplied by alan45 are of that release and not this later reissue on Parlophone?
|
Lee Wrecker 21st Oct 2024 | | Vinyl AlbumWings - Wings At The Speed Of Sound (1976) | Should the label here be changed to MPL? The MPL logo is on the back cover and the labels clearly indicate MPL is the label as well. There is no mention of Parlophone anywhere on the product yet for some reason we have it listed as a Parlophone release. Can anyone tell me why this is the case?

Lee Wrecker 3rd Oct 2024 | | Vinyl AlbumNeil Young - Harvest (1972) | mowdamowda you are right the original release did not come with the lyric sheet but I think, as I was gifted this album, in the mid to late 80's Australian reissues started to include it. My older version (see the four hidden pics on the page) had no lyric sheet. I am not a huge Neil Young fan so I'm not across all the details but someone may know more about when it was first included on our pressings.

Lee Wrecker 3rd Oct 2024 | | Vinyl AlbumThe Lemon Twigs - A Dream Is All We Know (2024) | I'll send a correction chrisb. The Mods may contact you for approval of the changes. I'm not sure how that works but I'll send one in and see what happens.
This is what I have sent in chrisb.
"Hello Mods,
There are links on the entry page here that prove Captured Tracks is an independent USA based label. Therefore chrisb and myself believe we should treat this the same as we treat other indie labels and list this as a USA release. Notes can be made on individual re-releases to record minor differences such as vinyl colour, countries of release as they appear. Modern indie labels seem to have a habit of releasing the same cat# album in multiple varieties changing each short production slightly every time. See the link on the page to the X-ray-spex album as example of this and also as a template for how this release should be dealt with moving forward."
Cheers,
Lee

Lee Wrecker 24th Sep 2024 | | Vinyl AlbumThe Lemon Twigs - A Dream Is All We Know (2024) | The Captured Tracks label is to my mind what would be classified as a USA based independent label. It is very similar to Creation or Rough Trade in the UK in that regard. The usual policy is that labels like this one are usually listed as from the label's country of origin and in this case that would be the USA. This record of mine was bought in Australia but is still listed as a USA release because of the way we deal with independent labels on the site.
The other thing to note about the linked entry is that it is also similar in that it has multiple versions with different coloured vinyl and different barcodes for each. This approach avoids the need to make a new entry every time the label represses in a slightly different way. Perhaps we should list releases on Captured Tracks as USA releases as we do with other similar modern independent labels? What do people think (...and I don't mean about the election!)?

Lee Wrecker 2nd Sep 2024 | | Vinyl AlbumBlondie - Parallel Lines (1978) | Apparently, there's supposed to be one of each which were pressed by an employee as keepsakes. So they were never officially released under this cat# in any form. As we don't have an option to use a term like unofficial we have to call everything unofficial a bootleg. The word to me is interchangeable with unofficial but some people seem to think it implies far more sinister activities.
Now as bootlegging goes I'd say this really is the mildest of misdemeanors and is certainly nothing like running a sweatshop in Indonesia pumping out the No.1 albums of the day. However, they are both unsanctioned use of a copyrighted product.
As for the colours, they were previously used in 1979 on this release. Maybe we could relabel these images Unofficial One Off Factory Pressing and leave them here?
|
Lee Wrecker 1st Sep 2024 | | Vinyl AlbumBlondie - Parallel Lines (1978) | PhilMH I agree that this entry is correct for the official black vinyl release and should stay but the images here do not match and should be removed. A separate entry needs to be created for the bootleg images with the pirate flag label to confirm the status of the images currently and incorrectly attributed to this entry.
|
Lee Wrecker 29th Aug 2024 | | Vinyl AlbumBlondie - Parallel Lines (1978) | Both of the discs on display here are unofficial releases of the Australian issue of this album. The details as listed on the page are correct for the official black vinyl release but these one off factory pressings were never available commercially. The blue album pictured on this page is not for sale on Discogs. The yellow vinyl is also unofficial. Quite interesting as versions of this album go but they are not official and need to be listed as bootlegs.

Lee Wrecker 24th Aug 2024 | | Vinyl AlbumBlur - Blur (1997) | Yes candiman they were both released on the same date February the 10th 1997. The double album may have been made for audiophiles that like more space between the grooves for better sound quality. The album was made in the CD era and there's 55min of music here which fits nicely on a CD but compressing that onto one LP will cause sound quality issues. I suppose the double LP was produced to placate discerning buyers but why release a poorer quality single LP version at all is the question.

Lee Wrecker 9th Feb 2024 | | Vinyl AlbumThat Petrol Emotion - Babble (1987) | Nice review Marmaduke! They are/were sort of a Northern Irish supergroup with an American singer that formed when the O'Neill brothers from The Undertones were left in the lurch by singer Feargal Sharkey. Although Feargal may have had "A Good Heart" and minor mainstream success for a while the O'Neill brothers went back to Derry and corralled members from local acts Bam Bam, The Calling and The Corner Boys together with USA vocalist Steve Mack to form That Petrol Emotion. The band were active from 1986-1993 and this is their second album. So, your review's mention of the influence of late 70's punk/new wave acts is spot on as that's where all the members of the group came from. Their music to me seems to be logical genesis (not the Peter Gabriel prog pantomime or Phil Collins MOR hit machine thankfully) of those influences. They were well received critically and did well on the indie charts but never really made the crossover to mainstream success.
This is buried treasure, Marmite!
