As you suggest, it's not mono/stereo, and I don't think it's genre either. Price code would look the most obvious explanation, but I have nothing but deduction to work from on that.

What we do is - as much as we can - put the label/sleeve images in chronological order within the entry (with, if possible, a note on the image stating whether the image is of a later pressing).
