TOKENHIPPIE 29th Jul 2014 | | Vinyl AlbumThe Beach Boys - 20 / 20 (1969) | I'll state the obvious but the regular issue was also released with a Capitol Rainbow label
TOKENHIPPIE 29th Jul 2014 | | Vinyl AlbumThe Beach Boys - Friends (1968) | Besides the coloured sunset , there is a Capitol Record Club issue with a Black and White sunset made in the USA. I also happened upon a regular issue of Friends with a Black and White sunset made in the USA in Costa Mesa California back in '90. And i do know what to look for. I made sure it was not a Capitol record club issue including the trashed vinyl. i looked for anything unusual and it had a 16 in the bottom right corner near the RIAA . i don't recall seeing the EMI logo at the bottom either. the 16 seemed more isolated away from any cluttered print. i checked it thoroughly and i know it was the last press of Friends But i was tight on money and food was more important than a beat up copy for 6 bucks even if it was a rare variation . and of course i haven't seen one since. and i guarantee it was not a Record Club issue or a British issue. I have a copy of the British mono back in the early 80's i know Lee Dempsey Of ESQ would vouch on my thoroughness. It was Lee who left behind a Capitol record club issue of Sunflower in a Mississippi record store back in '88. then two weeks later i was there and scooped it up never taking anything for granted. A valuable lesson that Lee Dempsey learnt. He has since found another one.

TOKENHIPPIE 21st Jul 2014 | | Vinyl AlbumThe Beach Boys - The Beach Boys Deluxe Set (1967) | There is a mono deluxe box set , however there is no such label# TCL 2813. it's all an illusion like what duophonic really is, not what capitol says it is. but i digress, the mono albums are the original T 2458. T 2354, T 2269 . THERE IS NO DESIGNATED TCL 2813 ON THE LABEL. However there is a 2813 on the back of the mono box set without the TCL. The only place you can find TCL 2813 is on the spine of the box set, which is the official title and label # for Capitol Records and it's a black spine different than the maroon coloured spine on the Duo.
There allegedly exists a Capitol Record club of the Deluxe Set with a blue spine.
Closest I came to seeing one was in a Denver record store in the late 70's. there was about 25 deluxe box sets all stacked up against the wall on the second floor above me where only the employees were allowed up there. I recall taking a long look at them and i thought i remember seeing one with a blue spine but it could've been a black one instead. regardless i never could investigate it , so it remains unsolved.
I do have a mono box set.

TOKENHIPPIE 17th Jul 2014 | | Vinyl AlbumThe Beach Boys - Best Of The Beach Boys, Vol.1 (1968) | if i do upload the Columbia House, Record club of America, RCA Record club it'lll be on this page. It's way too much work to list separate entries for every single Record club I took photos with an analogue camera over 20 yrs ago of my BB collection. This was a monumental task. I scanned a few recent additions about 10 yrs ago I would scan half an lp and then another half and digitally splice them together. that too was a lot work
TOKENHIPPIE 16th Jul 2014 | | Vinyl AlbumThe Beach Boys - 15 Big Ones (1976) | However there is a regular single jacket album cover of 15 Big Ones which is not a record club issue and it is made in the USA. I own it. Very rare but not worth much.
TOKENHIPPIE 15th Jul 2014 | | Vinyl AlbumThe Beach Boys - Best Of The Beach Boys, Vol.1 (1968) | As far as I know there is no Mono Capitol record club issue. It was released on the Red and White Target or Bullseye label only in Duophonic.
TOKENHIPPIE 14th Jul 2014 | | Vinyl AlbumThe Beach Boys - Smiley Smile (1967) | There are albums on the back cover which credit Barry Turnbull with naming the album title and some which do not credit Barry Turnbull. On the Stereo front covers the coral snake is missing in the jungle, it is not a worm as some used to call it. To make room for placing the Stereo on top the snake would be clipped off at the bottom.
the Capitol Record Club issues of Smiley Smile were released with a Rainbow label and an extremely rare lime green label with the Capitol # 2891.
TOKENHIPPIE 14th Jul 2014 | | Vinyl AlbumThe Beach Boys - 20 / 20 (1969) | Also there was a red teardrop sticker like the one on Spirit of America affixed to the shrinkwrap on some copies of 20/20. I recall seeing about forty 20/20s in this record store and maybe as many as 10 had the red stickers with the titles of the song. Once i read what was on there, i decided not to buy it, as i already had the 3 singles from the album. even though i lived in Canada at the time, the gatefold covers were manufactured in the USA not in Canada. The red stickers were also from the USA.
the Capitol Record Club issues were released with a Rainbow and Lime green label Capitol # 80133. no gatefold issued just a regular cover.
TOKENHIPPIE 14th Jul 2014 | | Vinyl AlbumThe Beach Boys - 20 / 20 (1969) | I'll have to be more careful in how i word something. Two photo variations of the inside gatefold. Capitol record club issue does not have gatefold cover. it's a regular cover. Also i need your help telew in listing the beach boys discography. it's a monumental task.
TOKENHIPPIE 14th Jul 2014 | | Vinyl AlbumThe Beach Boys - 20 / 20 (1969) | Why was the other photo removed with the disjointed brian and eyechart.. That was the first release. Capitol made a mistake and corrected later on subsequent issues. Please put that photo back up.
TOKENHIPPIE 14th Jul 2014 | | Vinyl AlbumThe Beach Boys - Best Of The Beach Boys (1966) | The Rainbow is the first pressing and there was no designation as a Starline label.
TOKENHIPPIE 13th Jul 2014 | | Vinyl AlbumThe Beach Boys - Smiley Smile (1967) | I uploaded a rare yellow sticker on the shrink wrap stating "THIS NEW BB ALBUM WILL GIVE YOU GOOD VIBRATIONS
TOKENHIPPIE 13th Jul 2014 | | Vinyl AlbumThe Beach Boys - 20 / 20 (1969) | Brian;s body and eyechart were disjointed on the inside gatefold. i've uploaded the corrected photo.

TOKENHIPPIE 13th Jul 2014 | | Vinyl AlbumThe Beach Boys - Fun, Fun, Fun (1971) | In the parkin' Lot and Brian Wilson vs Mike Love were deleted from this LP. Capitol should've deleted Louie, Louie instead. The worst cover the Beach Boys ever did.
Initial pressings were released with the lime green label.
TOKENHIPPIE 12th Jul 2014 | | Vinyl AlbumThe Beach Boys - Pet Sounds (1966) | The promo perforation in the top right hand corner on the front cover was a giveaway to the first 100 or 200 concert goers to promote the album at Beach Boys concerts

TOKENHIPPIE 12th Jul 2014 | | Vinyl AlbumThe Beach Boys - Pet Sounds (1966) | Images 83084 and 83087 wider indentation than normal.

TOKENHIPPIE 16th Jan 2014 | | Vinyl AlbumThe Beach Boys - Little Deuce Coupe (1963) | BURNT ORANGE PURPLE C IS NOT A REISSUE but an original USA pressing of ST 1998 . and indeed very rare. Which would mean that a lime green purple C should exist.
TOKENHIPPIE 15th Jan 2014 | | Vinyl AlbumThe Beach Boys - Little Deuce Coupe (1963) | 39266 STEREO CVR HAS LITHO'D IN US ALONG THE SIDE JUST BELOW THE CAP DOME

TOKENHIPPIE 11th Jan 2014 | | Vinyl AlbumThe Beach Boys - Surfer Girl (1963) | When i was married to my American wife who was a few yrs older. i recall her telling me about going to the beach in the early to mid 60's with a portable record player. they played the records went for a swim,etc... So when you take a kook at the Surfer Girl lp with the green sticker , you can see the yellowish brown stains on the cover. For the longest time i couldn't figure out why until my wife told me what she and her teen age friends did in Ohio at euclid beach. Then i put two and two together and figured when the came back from their swim they would towel off and some of the sand and their dripping wet bodies would accidentally get on the covers. so when they would wipe it off with a towel the result is what you see on the cover i uploaded

TOKENHIPPIE 9th Jan 2014 | | Vinyl AlbumThe Beach Boys - Surfin' U.S.A. (1963) | Each label is separate from the other. I have only listed one side of the label.
TOKENHIPPIE 6th Jan 2014 | | Vinyl AlbumThe Beach Boys - Surfin' Safari (1962) | I TOOK A PHOTO IN THE SUNLIGHT ABOUT 23 YRS AGO OF THE FIRST ISSUE OF THIS RARE DUO LABEL. IT WAS PRETTY BEAT UP I FOUND IT IN A THRIFT STORE IN DENVER COLORADO AROUND '77 WITH A NEW FULL DIMENSIONAL STEREO COVER TOTALLY TRASHED. I HAD TO SCAN THE PHOTO . I CAN'T FIND THE LP ANYMORE JUST THE TRASHED COVER WITH SEAM SPLITS FROM TOP TO BOTTOM.
TOKENHIPPIE 5th Jan 2014 | | Vinyl AlbumThe Beach Boys - Surfin' Safari (1962) | There are many cover variations for Surfin' Safari. for the Duophonic the back slick has the border with Duophonic on it. the front slick has the full Dimensional Stereo with the blue border. and this is where the confusion happens. As you can see the duophonic back slick is normally used with the Mono front slick cover. However when the full Dimensional stereo front slick is used then you have a clash of opposing contradictions. one cover has it mostly covered, while another is promoting both

TOKENHIPPIE 4th Jan 2014 | | Vinyl AlbumThe Beach Boys - Endless Summer (1974) | and whoever listed the title entries . thank you.
TOKENHIPPIE 4th Jan 2014 | | Vinyl AlbumThe Beach Boys - Endless Summer (1974) | I did these label scans many many years ago. I did not scan each side 1,2,3 and 4 on each variation. I just scanned two sides only.
The surprising find for me was the rainbow label. As you can see there are many variations. if you have the other sides to these variations fantastic. or other variations not found here. feel free to contribute.
