'Perspiration' spelled wrong on the caption to Townshend's photo. Looks like they took their proofs from the 1995 CD re-issue which has the same mistake (see that entry).

I have had this bootleg of the 1968 Fillmore East show since the seventies and although the new release would be better I'm fond of this once rare and highly sought after copy as a bootleg. This copy of "The Who Sell Out" is very good though.

Got it! Found it at JB down at Westfield Marion (an 80-minute each way bus journey, but at least it's one bus all the way). Also got the band's new double CD of their 1968 Fillmore East concert (which is also released on vinyl, though with the 33 minute "My Generation" split over two sides, so CD is the best choice there, and I'll add it to CD World later). Right now, I need to give this a clean and listen to it!

Hi Lee, my guess is that someone misinterpreted the gatefold layout of the 1975 twofer A QUICK ONE/THE WHO SELL OUT, which has Keith & John on the inside of the gatefold, with Pete & Roger on the outside with the Track logo and catalogue number, and so assumed the back of the gatefold to be the back of the original LP, which was probably not what Track and Polydor intended (other similar twofers have the respective front covers as front and back of the gatefolds, with the two back covers on the inners).

Hi Phil, yeah I saw that when I was there but went for this version as it had the poster, Track label and more importantly the cover the right way around! The other one I saw had the red Polydor symbol on the front and the cover reversed with Moon and Entwhistle on the front. It was however the right way around in the rack but when looked at the spine it was on the wrong side I'd be interested to see the scans when they arrive for the 2004 copy. I'm sure they've reversed the cover.Bugger it here's a link. I was right but I can't work it why anyone would so that but Universal are very sloppy aren't they.

I have to wonder why Universal still maintains the decades-old distinction between Polydor and Geffen (who absorbed the MCA catalogue) for The Who's releases, when they (and PolyGram before them) reassigned catalogues to whatever labels they wanted at will, e.g. all country to Mercury Nashville, all jazz to Verve, all original casts to Decca Broadway, and the aforementioned MCA to Geffen; ditto Free and Cat Stevens still being split between Island and A & M. All a bit pointless when all the labels are "A Division of UMG Recordings, Inc." in the US.

Anyway, I was in JB today, and I saw this title, but closer inspection revealed that it was the 2004 European issue linked below, which presumably has no poster (nothing on the sleeve or shrinkwrap to indicate that there was one). So close, but yet so far...

This Polydor reissue imitates the old "Track" labels with older copyright holders and the mono symbol (M33), however it's a stereo release.

Made in E.U. and available in UK, Europe, Australia
in the USA Geffen Records took care of this reissue.

PhilMH it's definitely stereo and I've uploaded a screenshot of a Wave file I made of the end of Relax to prove it. Thought I better be certain seeing as purchases are at stake and my ears are still working and stereo it is I'm afraid Phil. This one should be made international though shouldn't it? I requested a change when I uploaded the scans but nothing has happened and the same with sundry others. I just don't know where to turn with all that mumbo jumbo it just seems to be arbitrary how the site interprets it and with only a limited amount of pressing plants nearly all modern LPs are international. Most of ours come from Europe and nearly everything made there is available here in Australia. The USA and Japan seem to be the only nations left that have their own industries and markets left on the planet other than small time cottage industry independents. Oh, by small time I don't mean Domino, Mute or there ilk they are also plugged directly into the global market too. CD Albums world problems have come home to roost in LP Albums land.

 It's definitely stereo

Damn, I was hoping it would be mono as I already have two stereo versions, the 1975 2-on-1 LP (with "A Quick One") and the 1995 CD. It looks like Polydor's present staff need instruction on what the M-in-a-triangle symbol on their old record labels means! (Do they even know what mono is, I wonder?) I might still get this just for the poster, the chances of finding a mono original with the poster are probably next to nil!

Have a look at my acetate of side one and compare it, a mix of each track, had this acetate now fifty years, be interesting to see if any different from the original recording.

It's definitely stereo and very nice mix too! "I Can See For Miles" sounds great but it's "Relax" "Tattoo" "Rael 1&2 " and "Mary Ann..." that make this a great album. Yes, Side two was done twice as I accidentally labelled it A in my files and forgot to sort it out before uploading them here. Thanks for putting it right though Getalife.

Lee, is it stereo or mono? changed label to Track and hid side 2, I take it was done twice as I could not see any difference between the two.

Added a full of images, a mistake and a cover for moderation. It is a funny one to scan but even though my scans have some wavy lines they are still crisp on the type. There was also a copy in the same shop I bought this with cover reversed anyone got one of those?

Just bought this in Australia today so this should be International. The label should be Track not Polydor as you'll see when I upload some shots of it. This release is the regular issue available in Australia and this will go for most recent album releases too whether made in the USA or EU so we're running into a CD Albums world style problem where everything is available everywhere.
