I used to play this a lot. My older brother bought the stereo edition when it came out and it was one of those LPs 'around the house' that I used to listen to, although all the tracks were old by then. My brother eventually gave me the record to keep around 1979, which tied in nicely with my sixties fixation! Bless him!

Gloria backed Baby Please Don't Go, which was a hit single.

I don't know if Gloria was the preferred option that had a greater impact and airplay at the time of release, like how Sandie Shaw's Girl Don't Come was for example in preference to that A-side.

The odd thing about this is the inclusion of Gloria which never charted in the UK.

Hippies. 1967. Whatever.

You gotta love it.

Surely one of the greatest underrated songs ever. And, possibly the first ever pop video too, assuming it to be Feb 1965 when the single came out? Any earlier ones spring to mind? (Martha & the Vandellas in the local car factory was later in the year.)

Personally it always puts me in mind of Anthropophagus The Beast but that's just me...

A thought just struck me(ouch!), who owns the face in the front cover artwork? Could it be Peter Sarstedt?

Thanks, Neil: images now moved to SPA-7.

Judge, I've posted the Aussie version, so please move my images(labels and back cover over) to the new entry. Cheers!

Hi, Judge. To the end you suggest, I think I should scan in the front cover first, even though(barring the addition of the "Stereo" notice on the front), the covers are identical. When I submit the front cover, then I'll get you to move the labels and rear cover into the entry, okay?

 Neil,

Do you want to do the honours and set up the Oz entry? We can then move your images across to it.

Shouldn't the Australian addition have its own entry?

As promised, I've now added the rear sleeve of the Australian issue of The World Of Hits, cleaned up a bit, to appear (almost) pristine. There wasn't a need to add the Australian front cover, as it's the same(except for the addition of the "stereo" panel below the Decca brand).

I've now added the Australian labels to this album for comparison. Note the title "The World Of Hits" is shown here and that this version is stereo. I will add the Australian rear sleeve later.

Ppint, I guess this one(title-wise could be filed under "oops!" when the British Decca people forgot to put the title on the label. Just found my copy(Decca - SPA-7) and the title is present on the label which is sky-blue across the top(not quite half) of the label where the Decca trademark is, the rest of the label is white. If you look on the front cover, you will see the title, it's printed in red upper-case letters on the chin of the face in the cover.

The spine of the sleeve just calls it The World Of Hits, as does the bottom of the front cover.

neil forbes: i think it should be so cross-indexed (so 33catters & others looking for that title find it), but the back cover makes it pretty clear it was thought of by decca recordpeople as "the world of hits" - and must most prob'ly've been a one-off to begin with, only being turned into a series in the light of its sales - that's the only title for the album on the back cover; and the labels bear no lp title as such.

I have an Australian issue of this with several of the tracks in stereo. As for Lorangrecords' comment, "The world of hits, is a series of records.
Could we change the name of this release to "A Whiter Shade", because that is what's stated on the cover?" The title is at the top-centre of the rear sleeve.

 OK. No big deal.
I only remember the advice from 45cat.
If there is a major title on the front cover. Use that in the title field.
I suppose, that the whole "The World Of" series will be an own part later on.

But not on the label, or the rear sleeve.

This was the first in the World Of Hits series, which is why it doesn't have a volume number,

The world of hits, is a series of records.
Could we change the name of this release to "A Whiter Shade", because that is what's stated on the cover?
