R.C.: "This is the label I have on the Australian issue" - Well, it's the same design at least. To make it Australian you'd have to add the following: Around the top edge "Made by EMI(Australia) Ltd., Sydney NSW", To the catalogue prefix add the letter 'O' and amend the number(if it isn't the same as the British issue), delete the "Recording First Published 1963"(a shame to have to do that) then add those oh-so-accursedly-ugly publishing company credit "stamps" across the centre of the label.
Ppint, keep a close eye on that cobra! If he starts swaying from side to side, you can nab him and put him on the front of your car to be a "vindscreen viper"(ha-ha)! Seriously though, I have picked up the odd Indian EMI 45rpm singles and one on Warner that EMI pressed on their behalf. Interesting to note the prefix for EMI-Columbia is(or was) 45-DB in India for the reason the company was still issuing 78rpm versions of the same records they put on 45rpm. One of these I have is Peter & Gordon's "Woman". The Warner record was The Cascades' "Rhythm Of The Rain", by the way.
neil: if you go hunting through "that kind of shop" (discworld ref.), you may be lucky enough to find some indian hmv records - i've only found 78s, so far- which don't have nipper listening to hmv's gramophone - but a cobra!
People can be very touchy, can they not, MM? Maybe we just ask everyone to "lighten up and have a laugh" Indian isn't the only accent I mimic. I can do Scottish(got a bit of Scottish blood running around somewhere in me), Irish, Liverpudlian, Italian, German too! Even learned the language. Funny thing is - I'll do the accent but when I actually speak in German, I do it with an Australian accent! Confuses things a bit, ay?
What I was saying in my fumbling attempt at comedy was that the Indian Parlophone label looked very close to that of England. To see what I mean, look up "A Collection Of Beatles Oldies".
