 notes:

Rare Earth is an American rock band from Detroit, Michigan.
According to Louder, "Rare Earth's music straddles genres
and defies categorisation, slipping seamlessly between
the two seemingly disparate worlds of classic rock and R&B."
The band was signed to Motown's subsidiary label Rare Earth.
Although not the first white band signed to Motown, Rare Earth
was the first successful act signed by Motown
that consisted only of white members.

I'll vary that question - how can this be from June 1970 when it entered Billboard's album chart in December 1969?

Answer: this site isn't Discogs, so we don't give different release dates to variant pressings with the same label and catalogue number; we use the first issue date.

How can this be from Aug `69 when my copy has the date 6/22/70 etched into both sides?

How's that? I took the liberty of editing TheDroid's die-cut cover images. I too use paint.net. I used the Magic Wand to select areas I want removed from the image. I then use the Tolerance bar to adjust the sensitivity of the Magic Wand and better pinpoint what I want removed, then hit the Delete key. You'll then see the checkered canvas behind. I them zoom in to select and delete small remnants, to clean up the left over bits the Magic Wand did not select.

Thank you Both! It looks very good, I just wish my copy was in better condition. Have a wonderful Easter. The labels still need to be shuffled.

 That looks good HM.

...I was dabbling in Windows Gallery yestreday, and tried the "touch up" tool there for the first time in ages (they often refit, or update pieces of programmes without you noticing)... usually I use the "clone" tool in another prog to remove little blobs etc., but this, apparently revised feature only requires you to draw out a little square around the imperfection, and it takes care of it... very simple.

...it might be an easy way to mop up the little black bits that remain.

(I'm on my lappy at the mo, so can't do it myself right now).

Done that for you TheDroid, exactly as MM suggested. The facts that you scan with a black background and that there is no black on the edge of the sleeve does make it much easier to replace the bits not wanted, It's not perfect but it looks OK.

 ...or an even simpler suggestion:

use the "fill area" thingy (little spilling paint bucket), select white, and drop it into the black bits.

(it shouldn't run into the cover I shouldn't have thought :)

Thanks for the suggestion M.M., Someone "fixed" one of these for me some time ago and said they "turned off the background" (at least I think that was their comment). I use Paint and could not find how to do that on my version of Paint. Droid

You could try making a copy of the cover, so you have two of them... cutting one in half, so only the lower portion - to the bottom - remains as a rectangle, then doing a circular "label crop" on the other copy, so it follows the rounded top, albeit removing the bottom corners...

... then stitch the top, round piece over the lower, rectangular piece... or just dropping the top image on to the lower piece, so they match, then saving the image as a whole.

(I'd have a go myself, but don't want to take liberties with your image scan, in case it doesn't work out)

Added die cut round top cover version. I don't know how to get rid of the black background that is at the top, open to anyone's assistance! Also added original white with orange label and a fourth label variant.
