There are quite a few variations of this version.
Shrink-wrapped with no sticker on the cover.
Came with Submission 7" Single Plus Large Poster.
11 Track Version.
Different Track Listing On The Other Version.
Titles On Back Cover.
E.M.I. Correctly Credited To Matlock (Instead Of Vicious).
Timings On Labels Next To Tracks.
Producers Chris Thomas & Bill Price (Instead Of Chris Thomas Or Bill Price).
Added brighter front cover and back cover without the sticker over catalog number. Kudos to both Paul Vinyl and janiejjones, the original uploaders. Also added alternate label variant images.
The blank back sleeve copy might be a transitory edition while Virgin sorted out adding 'submission' to the sleeve, I'd like to know if it originally came with the 11 track pressing or the 12 track pressing as I've had a copy of each pass through my hands.
There are tons of pressing variants regarding the lettering, some copies even state Belsen Was A Gas, I guess it was a chaotic release for Virgin.
Also as an observation the often mis-quoted catalogue number "SPOTS 1" as "Sex Pistols On Tour" (which they were and did call themselves SPOTS) is actually just an identifier for the 'hype' spot sticker sometimes found on early issues with the freebie items, assumption made since Virgin put out Devo's first LP with a similar sticker notification but that one had an identifier "SPOTS 6".
EDIT: got my answers on the blank back, I followed the link in previous comments, thanks PV.
No, never. And honestly, I never looked for them afterwards. And now I was curious and did check, I even got cheated of a track listing on the cover :-)) Again a pain to ICE-it, and the difference to your detail is even visible in full scan. But I believe all Uk covers were semi-matte (that is, not glossly laminated/lacquered like the French ones, if I have that correct)
Paul, that was what we truly believed at the time. A band mate of mine got them from a shop in his home town of Krefeld, about 5 for our group and special friends. We really thought that some hoax was involved, because it was not yet officially released (our source of "officialdom" the NME, of course, which I got regularly abou 3 days after publishing). As Krefeld was amongst the major BAOR stations (till 89), I think it was due to some well connected squaddies being regulars at that particular shop. Perhaps a box or two fell from the back of a lorry on the way from CBS Aston to wherever Virgin had their distribution warehouse, and they were not yet fully packaged with freebies and stickers.
Took about two weeks for our local Düsseldorf dealer to get hold of his regular supply (he imported by car himself from London every week), no idea when major stores were stocked, and when finally German Ariola manufactured ones were around (I think before that the French ones were most common). What I remember best is, that by the time we noticed the missing goodies, and everybody else hat got theirs, it was old hat for us. Fast were the times, and real Punk snobs we were.
Of course all this may have happened in a completely different way in someone elses memory.
Yep, got the orange stickered sleeve & free poster & 7". Repro's do exist, but as far as I'm aware they've only managed to forge the green stickered version so far, and not the orange.
We got some shipped over with plain pink back, no poster, no freebie 7". Mighty p§$%& off when NME ads offered that stuff a week later. Perhaps someone nicked them, or more likely, the rush to ship did not allow for adding any goodies....
