albert 14th Oct 2018		TV Dennis The Menace [1959] (1959 - 1963)	The UK Dennis first appeared in The Beano and was drawn by David Law, the character got progressively more delinquent and destructive during his 1960's peak. David Law also drew Beril The Peril for The Topper, and Corporal Clott for The Dandy, all of his strips are inventive and often quite hilarious. These days the UK Dennis is very tame, and unfunny.

If you visit Felix Aeppli's website and search the text for "SKL 5212" he has listed which tracks come from which sessions, then somewhere amongst the mountain of info on his website you can find who played what during each session.
albert 29th Sep 2018		Vinyl Album The Rolling Stones - Their Satanic Majesties Request	According to Record Collector 169 page 36, the LP was originally going to be called "We Love You" and had a minimalist white sleeve with an image of a gift tag, a finished sleeve has survived, but then the idea got shelved and sort-of rehashed for Beggars Banquet.
albert 20th Sep 2018		Music Memorabilia The Beatles - The Beatles Collector's Edition Trivial Pursuit	I was being a bit sarcastic there, as far as I know Pete Best is still very much alive. The original Trivial Pursuit had quite a few wrong answers resulting in arguments that couldn't be easily resolved in pre-internet days. I don't know if I would like this Beatles version as it looks very, erm, trivial eg "At what nightclub did The Beatles go dancing after their first Ed Sullivan appearance?"
albert 13th Sep 2018		Music Memorabilia The Beatles - The Beatles Collector's Edition Trivial Pursuit	In the original/standard Trivial Pursuit there was a question something like "Which original member of the Beatles died in 1982" and they gave the answer as "Pete Best", I lost the point because I could not answer, obviously. I think I will give this version a miss.

albert 10th Sep 2018		Vinyl Album The Beatles - "Yesterday"...And Today	Years ago I saw a picture of someone holding a rejected? promo poster for the original Butcher sleeve, it was won at auction, and it is the only time I'd ever seen it. As far as I can remember the poster had a red meaty ? border and some wild text, ...whatever it had I know it looked great. However I have never been able to find the image (with the border) again, surely it is out there somewhere, even the repro-poster makers haven't bootlegged it, and I'd like one on my wall !

albert 9th Sep 2018		DVD Box Set Tom And Jerry: Volumes 1-6 - Warner Home Video	These Tom & Jerry collections, either as this 6DVD collection or as separate 3 x 2DVD collections, have unfortunately been edited to appease the P.C. brigade. Currently in USA they are re-releasing the cartoons in unedited form but it remains to be seen if they will get released here. Tom & Jerry has always been known for its cartoon slapstick violence and non-PC sight gags, some of the more OTT scenes and some 'objectionable scenes' such as characters smoking have been cut. Also regarding the black character Mammy Two-Shoes who threatened Tom with the chop whenever he couldn't catch Jerry; I don't know which versions of specific cartoons we have but her voice and legs got replaced in the 1960s when the episodes were broadcast by CBS, which is a shame because the 'black' characteristics were very funny, and the 'white' screeching replacements just didn't work at all. A list of edits can be found here on this Tom & Jerry website. Edit: This collection is missing the early short "Million Dollar Cat", which includes a scene where Tom smokes a cigar. I have added details of the Golden Collection Volume 1 (we probably wont see any more volumes).
albert 24th Aug 2018		Vinyl Album Jilted John - True Love Stories	Boss Tuneage released an album of radio sessions, demos, live and rehearsals which might be better than this LP, though I have yet to purchase a copy. I read somewhere that when it came to recording the official LP a band member decided to completely rearrange the tunes & playing styles.

albert 24th Aug 2018		CD Album The Adverts - Crossing The Red Sea With The Adverts	These tracks are hidden in what is known as the pregap, which is the countdown before the actual indexed track begins (they could be hidden in the pregap before any track on the CD). Personally I quite like the gimmick because they really are 'hidden' tracks and would not ever be heard if you just played the CD all the way through, so it is good for including bonus tracks that might otherwise be irritating after a few listens or would spoil an album that is perfectly formed without stuff added to it. The hidden tracks here are excellent despite being alternate versions of songs on the album and I think it would have been wiser of the manufacturers to have left a 30 second gap at the end of the excellent album closer "Great British Mistake" and then to have the extra tracks play.
albert 11th Aug 2018		Live Music Stereolab @ The Forum	We managed to miss Broadcast as they were on very early, but someone kindly put the gig on youtube [YouTube Video] We missed Broadcast and then had to put up with Tortuous, sorry Tortoise, with their tedious noodling and their whooping & high-fiving after every dreary song. Bloody awful they were and they went on forever, thank god for Stereolab who came on after and did one of their best gigs.
