Bill Fick 12th Jan 2015 | | Vinyl AlbumVarious Artists - Cruisin' 1962 Featuring Russ "Weird Beard" Knight, KLIF, Dallas | These are not original broadcasts, they are re-creations. Some of the volumes in this series feature later re-makes of certain songs, which makes it painfully obvious...

Bill Fick 12th Jan 2015 | | Vinyl AlbumThe Beatles - Songs And Pictures Of The Fabulous Beatles / Introducing The Beatles | Bootleg (or counterfeit, I should say), no doubt about it.

Bill Fick 30th Dec 2014 | | 78 RPMPat Boone - I'll Remember Tonight / The Mardi Gras March | Sep '58... Gotta be close to the end of the 78 run, if not the actual end.
Bill Fick 30th Dec 2014 | | 78 RPMThe Del Vikings - What Made Maggie Run / Little Billy Boy | Their names are all over the place, just like their member line-up...Del Vikings, Dell Vikings, Del-Vikings, Dell-Vikings, etc.

"Lest We Forget..."
Bill Fick 18th Nov 2014 | | Vinyl AlbumJohnny Cash - Now, There Was A Song! | Yes, it is. You could call it a "concept album" all on its own ("Cash Does Traditional Country")...
Bill Fick 17th Nov 2014 | | Vinyl AlbumJohnny Cash And The Tennessee Two - Story Songs Of The Trains And Rivers | This inadvertently has an alternate take of "Wreck Of The Old 97" that is better than the master version. Master take is on his 1st LP ("Hot And Blue Guitar"), & Luther blows the guitar solo!
Bill Fick 17th Nov 2014 | | Vinyl AlbumJohnny Cash - The Sound Of Johnny Cash | Cash's last Columbia LP released on the black/red "6-eye" label.
I've tried hard over the years to like this LP better than I do. Iconic cover, good songs, but Cash's vocals mar it somewhat, due to his (at this point) almost chronic laryngitis. This same problem cropped up (but even worse) the same year at his debut at Carnegie Hall (it was originally intended to be his 1st live LP), which turned out to be a disaster instead of a career milestone.
Track A3 was released as a single, mainly due to Cash's ever-growing obsession with Jimmie Rodgers. Track B4 would've made a better single. Track B1 was later re-recorded for "American Recordings" in 1994 with lyrical changes.

Bill Fick 17th Nov 2014 | | Vinyl AlbumJohnny Cash - Now, There Was A Song! | Track A3 was 1st cut by Cash at Sun in 1956 (with slightly different lyrics), but left un-issued until the '70s.

Bill Fick 17th Nov 2014 | | Vinyl AlbumJohnny Cash - Sings The Songs That Made Him Famous | Got a soft spot for this one, 1st brand-new LP I ever owned...
Bill Fick 8th Nov 2014 | | Vinyl AlbumThe Kingston Trio - The Kingston Trio | Thanks, W.B. lbl. I always wondered if this was ever issued on the turquoise label. Earliest pressing I ever had was the 1st rainbow ("Long Playing...") label.
Bill Fick 8th Nov 2014 | | Vinyl AlbumSimon And Garfunkel - Sounds Of Silence | There's also a front cover variation with the artist & title in much smaller print with no song titles listed.
Bill Fick 4th Nov 2014 | | Vinyl AlbumWarrant - Cherry Pie | Love how the pie slice is strategically placed on the front cover. Back cover needs no comment... Almost as good as "Mom's Apple Pie".
Bill Fick 3rd Nov 2014 | | Vinyl AlbumDale Hawkins - Oh! Suzy-Q | As mentioned in the Notes, the All-Platinum pressing is a re-issue, but it has the same catalog # as the original. It also uses the original cover art/liner notes, the only difference is that the original front cover was black & yellow, where the re-issue is black & white. The cover is full of typos. Dale was on Checker, which is what this LP should've been issued on, yet the label & front cover say Chess. The back cover says Argo. A number of the earlier LPs from the Chess stable of labels were rife with typos also.

Bill Fick 1st Nov 2014 | | Vinyl AlbumThe Astronauts - Rockin' With The Astronauts | Anyone know why this was a "Special Collector's Edition"?

Bill Fick 30th Oct 2014 | | Vinyl AlbumJerry Lee Lewis - Jerry Lee Lewis | Track B6 ("It'll Be Me") is a completely different version than the 45 release (Sun 267).
Bill Fick 30th Oct 2014 | | Vinyl AlbumJohnny Cash - The Unissued | This LP was my introduction to the great Bear Family label. Bought this at the World Of Music in Nuremberg back in the '80s.
Bill Fick 30th Oct 2014 | | Vinyl AlbumJohnny Cash - Tall Man | A rarities LP, made up of both originally unissued material & non-LP tracks.
Bill Fick 30th Oct 2014 | | Vinyl AlbumElvis Presley - Elvis Is Back | 1st pressing covers (both mono & stereo) have yellow stickers on them with the track listing. Reason for that is because the covers were printed well in advance of the actual recording sessions for this LP. When the covers were actually printed, no one knew what the track line-up would be yet. This is Elvis' 1st post-Army LP, in addition to being his 1st LP recorded in true stereo.
The same holds true for Elvis' 1st post-Army 45 ("Stuck On You" - cut at the same sessions), the sleeve was printed with no titles listed & a die-cut hole in the sleeve, because it was also printed well in advance... Again, no one knew what the A/B sides of this 45 would be when the sleeves were printed.
Bill Fick 26th Oct 2014 | | CD AlbumThe Beatles - The U.S. Albums | Notice how on the cover of this (and the sampler) that the boys are sitting in front of a 48-star US flag, instead of a 50-star one. Somebody really fumbled there. Leads me to believe that this photo was taken in the UK prior to their 1st US visit, because no one in the US would be still using a flag that was 5 years out of date. This was commented on over on 45cat, but I posted it here too for the sake of convenience.
