Bill Fick 18th Jul 2014 | | Vinyl AlbumNancy Sinatra - Boots | Also one of the hottest LP covers ever...
Bill Fick 18th Jul 2014 | | Vinyl AlbumHerb Alpert's Tijuana Brass - Whipped Cream & Other Delights | One of the hottest LP covers ever...
Bill Fick 17th Jul 2014 | | Vinyl AlbumBuck Owens And His Buckaroos - I've Got A Tiger By The Tail | Man never got the respect he deserved, especially after he went to "Hee Haw", same goes for Roy Clark.
Bill Fick 16th Jul 2014 | | Vinyl AlbumBuck Owens And His Buckaroos - I've Got A Tiger By The Tail | Probably his best studio album.
Bill Fick 14th Jul 2014 | | Vinyl AlbumThe Beach Boys - Smiley Smile | I didn't get "good vibrations" until Capitol finally got around to releasing the original "SMiLE" material a few years ago...
Bill Fick 13th Jul 2014 | | Vinyl AlbumCharlie Feathers - Jungle Fever | Even though it's a boot, it's a great album, especially Side 1. All in chronological order too. I picked my copy up at the World Of Music in Nuremberg when I was stationed overseas. Had no idea it was a boot until years later. They hated me when I cranked up "Bottle To The Baby" in the barracks...
Bill Fick 11th Jul 2014 | | Vinyl AlbumRitchie Valens - In Concert At Pacoima Jr. High | It has polystyrene in it, similar to Columbia 45's. A lot of budget labels used a mixture of it because it was cheaper than 100% vinyl. Some early black label Decca LP's are like that too. Less flexible & more brittle than vinyl.
Bill Fick 11th Jul 2014 | | Vinyl AlbumJulie London - Around Midnight | I used to buy her LP's just for the cover art..."Schwiiinggg!!"
Bill Fick 10th Jul 2014 | | Vinyl AlbumThe Searchers - Meet The Searchers / Needles And Pins | Between this LP & The Beatles' "Please Please Me" LP, I think we have the best examples of what the "Mersey Sound" was like, without actually being there. This LP has some real gems on it. A mono entry needs to be made for this LP...
Bill Fick 4th Jul 2014 | | Vinyl AlbumElvis Presley - For LP Fans Only | On this German pressing, "Mystery Train" does not fade out. It keeps going until the band comes to a full stop. Never heard a version that long except on this pressing (don't know about it's mono counterpart). I would've kept it for that reason alone but for the fact that I hated that fake stereo with a passion. RCA's brand of it was just about the worst. A shame, especially when you consider that RCA made some true stereo audiophile gems like "Elvis Is Back!" Or the 1959 re-recording of "Victory At Sea".
Bill Fick 4th Jul 2014 | | Vinyl AlbumThe Beatles - Revolver | "I Want To Tell You" mis-titled as "I Want To Love You", but only on the record label itself. There's also an '80's-era German pressing of this with the same mistake.
Bill Fick 4th Jul 2014 | | Vinyl AlbumLed Zeppelin - Led Zeppelin [IV] | I had the Led Zeppelin songbook years ago that had all of the sheet music to their first 5 albums in it. Pictures of the front covers of all 5 were in it, & the album after this one was actually referred to as "Led Zeppelin V"!!!
Bill Fick 4th Jul 2014 | | Vinyl AlbumLed Zeppelin - Led Zeppelin [IV] | Seems to me that the 4 symbols could represent the "IV" in "Led Zeppelin IV".
Bill Fick 2nd Jul 2014 | | Vinyl AlbumLed Zeppelin - Led Zeppelin [IV] | Back when this was a current LP, I bought only 45's, but I heard "Stairway To Heaven" on WLS & initially played hell trying to find out which LP it was on. Didn't know at first that it was on this LP because it had no markings whatsoever. Finally, Atlantic Records starting putting a sticker on the shrink-wrap stating, "This album contains 'Stairway To Heaven'"...
Bill Fick 2nd Jul 2014 | | Vinyl AlbumLed Zeppelin - Led Zeppelin [IV] | You bring up a very interesting point.
Bill Fick 2nd Jul 2014 | | Vinyl AlbumPaul Simon - The Paul Simon Song Book | I'd have to agree with you...
Bill Fick 2nd Jul 2014 | | Vinyl AlbumJohnny Cash - I Walk The Line | One of Cash's more disappointing '60s-era LP's. Out of the 12 tracks on this album, 8 of them are inferior re-makes of earlier Sun/Columbia material. This is during the time-frame where the pills were becoming a major problem for him...
Bill Fick 2nd Jul 2014 | | Vinyl AlbumJohnny Cash - With His Hot And Blue Guitar | Original Sun releases stayed in print until 1968, when Sam Phillips sold the label to Shelby Singleton. After that, all Sun releases were completely re-configured, new LP's, catalog numbers, artwork, etc.
Bill Fick 30th Jun 2014 | | Vinyl AlbumPaul Simon - The Paul Simon Song Book | Not counting "I Am A Rock" and "The Sound Of Silence" (although these versions
ARE interesting), I actually prefer these solo recordings over the later Simon & Garfunkel versions. From what I've read, Paul himself didn't seem to care for this album.
Bill Fick 28th Jun 2014 | | Vinyl AlbumThe Who - Who Are You | This was also pressed on red vinyl.
Bill Fick 28th Jun 2014 | | Vinyl AlbumWerner Müller And His Orchestra - O, Tannenbaum (Christmas On The Rhine) | 1st pressing was on the flat black label.
Bill Fick 28th Jun 2014 | | Vinyl AlbumWaylon Jennings - Nashville Rebel (From The Original Soundtrack) | I'll have to double check, but if I remember correctly, only the instrumentals are electrically reprocessed stereo...
Bill Fick 28th Jun 2014 | | Vinyl AlbumVaughn Meader - The First Family | For people over a certain age, who DIDN'T have this record?
Bill Fick 28th Jun 2014 | | Vinyl AlbumPerry Como - Como's Golden Records | 1st pressing of this has no song titles on the front cover, similar to the 1st pressing of Elvis' Golden Records (LPM-1707).
Bill Fick 28th Jun 2014 | | Vinyl AlbumMarvin Gaye - In The Groove | Original cover
Bill Fick 28th Jun 2014 | | Vinyl AlbumMarty Robbins - Gunfighter Ballads And Trail Songs | The mono version of this LP has the full-length version of "El Paso", while the stereo version has the edited version.
Bill Fick 28th Jun 2014 | | Vinyl AlbumLynyrd Skynyrd - Street Survivors | The original cover was the "flames" cover.
Bill Fick 28th Jun 2014 | | Vinyl AlbumLou Christie - Painter Of Hits | My copy's autographed.
Bill Fick 28th Jun 2014 | | Vinyl AlbumKermit Schafer - All-Time Great Bloopers Volume 1 | TV mail-order LP.
Bill Fick 28th Jun 2014 | | Vinyl AlbumHarry Belafonte - Calypso | 2nd pressing (and later) covers have song titles on the front.
