Rubber Legs Williams - That's The Stuff You Got To Watch / Pointless Mama Blues
Mickey - All of Rubberlegs recordings are on Blue Moon cd - BMCD 6011 ' Obscure Blues Shouters' from Barcelona. A great cd, dunno if it's still available, I've had it for some time. Well worth seeking out.

Great two sider from the always reliable Esther. try 'The deacon moves in' by Esther and the Dominoes for great rock n roll, Fabulous record, and well inside my top ten of all time

Jimmy Preston And His Prestonians - Rock The Joint / Drinking Woman
The topside is a well covered song, I think this [the original] is the best by a street. Chris Powell and the Five Blue Flames do a good version on OKeh. This is a good song, and in all honesty, I like every version I've heard.

Billy Wright - Stacked Deck / Mercy, Mercy
molemilton, I'd go as far to say Billy never made a bad record. 'Billy's boogie blues' & 'Married woman's boogie' also on Savoy are brilliant rockers with terrific clanking boogie piano.

Ted Weems - Jiminy Cricket / Monstro The Whale
Jock_Girl - Keep licking the sticker till it's wet right through and gently peel it back a bit at a time with your fingernail, keep licking till it's all removed. They all come off eventually. Lighter fuel sometimes works, also Good for 45s

Louis Jordan And His Tympany Five - Ain't That Just Like A Woman (They'll Do It Every Time) / If It's Love You Want Baby, That's Me
Fats Domino cut a great version of the top side, also I think Chuck Berry [who dug Louis] was taking note of guitarist Carl Hogan's intro and made it his own.

Jimmie Rodgers - My Old Pal / Daddy And Home
Hi molemilton, Met Jerry Lee on several occasions and one time he actually stated your 'quote', this would be in the mid 60s. Don't think much of Al, but 3 outa 4 ain't bad.

Jimmie Rodgers - My Old Pal / Daddy And Home
These Jimmie Rodgers Zonophones are really attractive. Jerry Lee Lewis loved him and cut many of his songs including 'My old Pal' and turned it into a real belter without losing any of the song's character. I don't have any of Jimmies 78s, but have a cd boxset and an HMV EP.
He sure wrote and recorded some really good stuff in his short life.

Moon Mullican - Yearning (Just For You) / Put Your Arms Around Me Honey
Mickey, on 'Seven nights to rock' Moon is backed by Boyd Bennett's Rockets, so it's not your typical Moon. As far as Amos is concerned, he can do no wrong for me, I've got the Mosaic box of his Aladdin stuff and named one of my West Highland Terriers after him. The other one, Jake is named after Jake La Motta.

Moon Mullican - Yearning (Just For You) / Put Your Arms Around Me Honey
Mickey, yes I'm sure he influenced JLL, who mentioned Moon on his dates at Tito's nightspot in Stockton on his 1966 tour. My favourite Moon track is 'Seven nights to rock', very similar in content to 'Livin' like a king' by Memphis Slim on Peacock.

Fever is a classic, and just about his best track. I'm told Eddie Cochran did this on his UK tour, anyone confirm ?

I like this better than 'Rocket 88' especially the way the sax solo takes off, just brilliant !

Sonny Fisher - Rockin' Daddy / Hold Me Baby
Another nice one ! This is the best version of this oft recorded song, all Sonny's Stardays have real good guitar by Joey Long. Note the date too, real early, less than a year after Elvis's first record.

Bobby Charles - One Eyed Jack / Yea Yea Baby
These Chess 78 labels are great are they not? I agree with Mickey about the cd of Bobby's Chess stuff. I have all Bobby's Chess 45s, all well played, and all still have better sound than the cd.

Another killer diller from Sonny. this was the first Sonny Burgess record I bought [45 copy] back in 1964/5, paid 15 bob for it in an auction, been a big fan ever since.

"Sonny Boy" Williamson - She Brought Life Back To The Dead / Gettin' Out Of Town
I think Sonny Boy's best sides were cut for Trumpet, I like 'em better than the Checker stuff a few years later, and they're pretty damn good also.

What a boringly plain label, not much imagination shown here !
