confranfan SUBS 25th Jul 2017 | | Vinyl AlbumConnie Francis - 20 All Time Greats | Despite the original British compilation of the above being assigned the Polydor International catalog number 2391 290, another number, in a different series, was given to the subsequent local German pressing. Confusingly, however, the British cassette, numbered 3177 290, was by-passed, and another international number in the same series - 3177 310 - assigned instead. There is no logical explanation for this.

The above collection is one of the most important and finest albums in her entire catalog. It is the only foreign language album to have been specifically recorded for an overseas territory, and to contain totally original material. All other foreign language albums feature either collections of Connie Francis hit singles in native languages or translations of tracks previously recorded by Connie Francis and retaining the original accompaniments.
Added composer credit.
All selections were recorded in 1968, with the exception of B4: WEINE NICHT UM MICH cut on June 15th, 1961 and making its debut on this release.

B1: WHAT GOOD ARE TEARS? [Second recording]
B2: STRANGERS IN THE NIGHT [Second recording]
B3: NOTHING TO LOSE [Second recording - Take #11]
B5: STORY OF MY LIFE [Take #6]
B6: GRAZIE A TE [Danke Schon - Italian alternative version]
Simultaneously issued on cassette POLYDOR P460 458.
The following titles all make their release debuts on this album:
A1: NO SUN TODAY - recorded on November 15th, 1967
A2: AFTER YOU - recorded on February 23rd, 1967
B1: WHAT GOOD ARE TEARS - recorded on November 15th, 1967
All of the above selections are James Last compositions, with the maestro's own orchestra accompanying Connie. Original vocals to NO SUN TODAY and WHAT GOOD ARE TEARS remain unissued.
A6: NOTHING'S NEW - recorded on February 14th, 1968 does not have a connection with any of the four composers to whom the album is credited other than having been recorded by Bert Kaempfert, in whose style the song has been arranged.
B3: NOTHING TO LOSE - recorded on March 1st, 1968 was composed by Henry Mancini. A first, unissued recording was recorded with NOTHING'S NEW on February 14th, 1968.
B5: STORY OF MY LIFE was one of three Teddy Randazzo-arranged Burt Bacharach titles recorded in April 1968. These were scrapped when the theme of an album devoted to his material was switched from 'pop' to a more sophisticated sound. This version is a complete TAKE 6. A complete TAKE 9 also exists.
B6: GRAZIE A TE is a different complete take to that first issued on Italy single MGM K 2068.
Added composer credit.

confranfan SUBS 13th Jul 2017 | | Vinyl AlbumConnie Francis - Great French & Italian Hits | OLYGRAM INC release
POLYDOR label
This is an original compilation first released to be marketed in Canada following the company name change locally from Polydor Ltd to PolyGram Inc.
A1: DANKE SCHON [French version]
A2: PERSONNE AU MONDE [No Arms Can Ever Hold You - French version]
A5: JE SAIS QU'UN GARS [Where The Boys Are - French version]
A6: L'HIVER SERA LONG POUR MOI SANS TOI [Blue Winter - French version]
A7: JAMAIS [Your Love / La Paloma - French version]
B1: WHAT NOW MY LOVE? [Et Maintenant - Second recording]
B2: THIS IS MY SONG [Cara Felicita]
B3: IL MIO AMORE E COSI [Et Si C'Etait Vrai / All The Love In The World - Italian version]
B7: LA PALOMA [Your Love - Italian version]
Simultaneously issued on
- cassette POLYDOR P460 453
- cartridge POLYDOR P860 453
Three titles made their release debut on this album:
A2: NO ARMS CAN EVER HOLD YOU was first released in 1962 via an Italian & English version of NESSUNO AL MONDO recorded in October of that year. Almost a year earlier, on November 9th, 1961, Connie recorded an Italian only version. The French version, PERSONNE AU MONDE, had been cut one week before on November 2, 1961.
A6: L'HIVER SERA LONG POUR MOI SANS TOI remained, until the above release, the only foreign language version of BLUE WINTER awaiting release. All other versions had been recorded and released in 1964.
B3: IL MIO AMORE E COSI was recorded in 1966, presumably in October but unconfirmed. An Italian only interpretation of ALL THE LOVE IN THE WORLD, it has an entirely different production and arrangement to the English version. The song is a French original titled ET SI C'ETAIT VRAI, but has not been recorded by Connie in that language.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------B2: THIS IS MY SONG [CARA FELICITA] the 'live' 1970 Romanian concert track first featured on LAURIE HOUSE LH-8019 CONNIE ITALIANO, was leased to PolyGram for this recording. All rights are owned by Connie Francis.
Added composer credit / public domain notations.

A4: BE ANYTHING (BUT BE MINE)
B4: ALL THE LOVE IN THE WORLD and
B6: ADDIO MI AMORE
It should not be confused with either the similarly titled 12-track sest subsequently issued:

- in Australia in 1972 on MGM 2315 126

confranfan SUBS 8th Jul 2017 | | Vinyl AlbumConnie Francis - En Suivant Mon Coeur | QUALITY RECORDS release
METRO label
In similar fashion to the MGM E/SE series of albums, Quality Records locally pressed and distributed the U.S. Metro label range of releases. Although this series commenced with Metro M/MS 500 devoted to Ella Fitzgerald, the special preceding number of Metro M-499 (A) was created for Connie Francis and the first listed release here. Metro albums appear to have adopted an "(A)" suffix for mono issues and "(B)" for stereo.
The above album has the same content and picture sleeve as CANADA MGM oLSLP-2 (C).
Liner on this release changed to advertise the first 20 "official" Metro label releases from M/MS 500 through M/MS 519 (Connie Francis) inclusive.

confranfan SUBS 7th Jul 2017 | | Vinyl AlbumConnie Francis - Jamais | QUALITY RECORDS release
MGM label - LSLP Series
The following compilations are also exclusive to Canada, and were issued by Quality as a supplementary series of French related material. Although the three Connie Francis albums are clearly consecutive releases in this series, each has a different presentation of catalog number on the sleeve and/or label The postings being made to this site have "standardized" the layout of these catalog numbers, providing notes of reference on presentations used by the releases.
A1: JAMAIS [Your Love / La Paloma - French version]
A2: C'EST LUI QUE JE VEUX [Someone Else's Boy - French version]
A3: MONSIEUR TWISTER [Quand Il Twiste / Mr. Twister - French version]
A4: LA SEULE QUI T'AIME [Pretty Little Baby - French version]
A5: LILI MARLENE [French version]
B2: MON COEUR EST UN VIOLON [Love Is Like A Violin - French version]
B3:TANGO DELLA GELOSIA [Jealous Of You]
B4: FAUT PAS FAIRE CA [Too Many Rules - French version]
B5: LA PALOMA [Your Love - Italian version]
Album liner and spine display catalog number as LS LP 1 (C)
Album front states LSF-LP-1.
Labels state LS.LP-1 (C)
MON COEUR EST UN VIOLIN, translated literally, reads MY HEART IS A VIOLIN. US LP MGM E/SE 4161 MALA FEMMENA, which features the Neapolitan version UN VIOLINO NEL MIO CUOR, provides the track with literal English translation of A VIOLIN IN MY HEART. The official English lyrics version of this song, however, is known as LOVE IS LIKE A VIOLIN.
Liner and labels feature inaccurate title listing of C'EST LUI QUE JE VEUX as CELUI QUE JE VEUX. Liner on the initial release of this album cover erroneously lists MONSIEUR TWISTER as MONSIEUR TWIST.
Presumably, a later edition of this album implemented the use of the "(C)" suffix in late 1962. The differing catalog number is displayed on album liner and labels only.
Labels and liner retain inaccuracy of CELUI QUE JE VEUX, but liner has amended MONSIEUR TWIST to read MONSIEUR TWISTER.
As evidenced by the scans provided, this album was made available in both YELLOW/BLACK label (issued on October 29th, 1962) and BLACK/MULTI COLORED label issued sometime later in 1962/1963 presumably.
I have provided scans of the yellow label edition.
