Cab Calloway - Necessity / Hi-De-Ho Man (That's Me)
@ cyeaman-I saw him In Milwaukee in the ‘80’s as well. I think it was at a Jazz Festival at the Summerfest grounds. I had a chance to interview him briefly. Not sure if this is the one you were at. I think he appeared here twice in the ‘80’s. His popularity spiked after the Blues Brothers movie. I think that was the same event I was supposed to interview Buddy Rich at- but that story needs its own page.

Richard Huey And His Sundown Singers - Hurry Sundown (See What Tomorrow Brings) / Blues Boogie Woogie
The song Hurry Sundown is nearly the same song as Hurry On Sundown from Hawkwind’s first LP, both in melody and lyrically. When I interviewed Dave Brock decades ago, I played this 78 for him. He claimed to never have heard it before. I suppose he could have heard another artist’s rendition of it, but Dave claimed authorship.
I’m not sure what Clarence Williams’ involvement was, might be one of his many purchased songs from other artists.

Ben Selvin - My Sweet Tooth Says I Wanna (But My Wisdom Tooth Says No) / Nobody Loves No Baby (Like My Baby Loves Me!)
Oh,I get it. I prefer it this way, less typing on this tiny phone keyboard, too. I just got used to the 45 side of doing things. Less work the better, especially since it looks like I could add 20,000 titles easily, unless the other members get it in gear :)

Ben Selvin - My Sweet Tooth Says I Wanna (But My Wisdom Tooth Says No) / Nobody Loves No Baby (Like My Baby Loves Me!)
There were many bandleaders like Bob Crosby or Vaughn Monroe, for example that continued as singers without their orchestra in the postwar year, usually backed by a studio group. That’s why adding their band/ orchestra title made sense to me. Or say, Jimmy or Tommy Dorsey and Fats Waller recording solo pieces before ever leading a band. I thought the distinction would be necessary. I suppose that makes linking all the artists various incarnations tedious. Actually, I wish discogs linked everything. They are impossible to navigate because of it

@ Mike Gann -Okay. I was posting what’s on the label, figuring one would do that in a search. Things work differently on this side. On the 45 side, I’d be chastised for omitting.

Dave Nelson And The King's Men - Some Of These Days / Getting Hot
Dave Nelson was King Oliver’s nephew, and doing a lot of the lead trumpet work as Oliver struggled with health and dental issues. This may have been recorded when Oliver was inactive. I need to check on that.

Wisconsin Roof Orchestra - Deep River Blues / Black Maria
I believe it was covered. I have a bunch of old advertising for the venue and band schedules. I’m pretty sure one photo shows an inner dance space and stage and an outer perimeter with with lounge furniture, plants and foliage. I’ll have to dig that stuff out and post it

Wisconsin Roof Orchestra - Deep River Blues / Black Maria
Leader Bill Carlson made his way to Milwaukee from Kansas early in life. The Wisconsin Roof, operated by George Devine was a popular downtown Milwaukee destination for young dancers. My first memories of Bill Carlson was as a TV weatherman on WTMJ Milwaukee. In the middle of his forecast, he would walk to a table and pick up a cup of Butternut coffee and sell the product. One day the stage crew glued the cup to the table…

Might actually be my favorite rendition of this song. Very quick two step by the Sanella/Mosiello/Magnante gang. Every once and a while the GG house band turns in an inspired performance. Not sure who the vocalist is here, not Fields or Hall on the top side, it could actually be Andy Sanella. He does just about everything else here, steel guitar and alto sax solo, too.

King Oliver And His Dixie Syncopators - Farewell Blues / Sobbin' Blues
Yes, info from DAHR.
Sorry, I’ve been a bit lax on citing sources and adding pertinent information. I’m adding some things rather hurriedly here. I’m actually in the middle of reboxing about 100 failing milk crates of dupes and unsorted stuff that have been sitting in my garage for a decade. When I get a few minutes I’m adding some of items that I’ve decided no longer should be in the garage in unstable conditions.

Ray McKinley - Howdy Friends (E.T.O. Curtain Call) / Ol' Tag Along
It appears Eli Oberstein reactivated Varsity as a discount label in the late 1940’s. Many sides were reissues of Hit and Majestic material. The B side was recorded at the same session that produced “Red Silk Stockings And Green Perfume”, but I cannot find evidence of any previous issue.

The inventory sleeve suggests the wild popularity of Sinatra in the early post war years. 75 copies on hand of any record was a lot. I’m pitting this against other artist’s inventory sleeves from the same record shop, most of which listed less than a dozen copies of any particular record.

Mary Ann McCall - Money Is Honey / On Time
Former Charlie Barnet and Woody Herman thrush decently tackles an R&B side, but she needs work on her Billie Holiday impression on the flip. Her phrasing is okay, but the material doesn’t quite suit her voice.
