mowdamowda 14th Sep 2024		Vinyl Album Neil Young - After The Gold Rush	When this was released in Australia it was not gatefold, so no shot of Neil on the couch, and had no lyric sheet.
mowdamowda 14th Sep 2024		Vinyl Album Neil Young - Harvest	I bought this album in Brisbane the week it was released and there was no lyric sheet with the album. Australian manufacturers were that cheap and stingy, would regularly make gatefold albums just single sleeve. I can't remember any Oz Neil Young album in the 70s being issued with the lyric sheet. Harvest was the 1st NY album released here with a gatefold. NY, Everybody, and Goldrush were all single sleeve.

mowdamowda 7th Nov 2021		Vinyl Album Neil Young - On The Beach	ady_lister In Australia, in the 60s and 70s, the manufacturing of records was pretty pathetic. Thin flimsy covers and never a gatefold for any artist (well rarely). The price of an album was $5.50. The manufacturing cost to make a gatefold? A measly 20 cents. So they invariable said 'no' and we went without. However, when On The Beach was released here, they made it a gatefold! (no gatefolds for Neil's first three albums, but this one they do. Gives you an idea of the thinking, well, lack of, that held sway out here.

Not only that, after about 45 seconds into 'Slunky' the balance changes radically and for the remainder of the album volume is about 25% left channel - 100% right channel. (or vice versa). BTW, the version shown here is a later RSO pressing. The original was Polydor

From Discogs: Base Record - Italian (Bologna) indie label operating between January 1979 and April 2010. This release has the same poster insert as the U.S. original release.

HMS Donovan was released in July 1971. My suggestion would be the label change happened midway through the pressing of HMS Donovan. Quite a fanciful hypothesis is it not? http://imgur.com/a/2J4B8

I was a huge Donovan fan and when I heard this album was coming out had one specifically imported to Oz from the U.K. If there was a label change in the space of 4 weeks from release, I'll accept it. Will have to do a little research on this to find out what's what.

mowdamowda 30th Apr 2017		CD Album John Martyn - Piece By Piece	Released around the start of the transition between vinyl and CD, this CD appeared in two variations with hardly any identifying indicators (except on the CD label). The standard vinyl release and this one with bonus tracks. A long wait until Tight Connection To My Heart was available on CD again, if you happened to miss this elusive release at the time .

It started life as the instrumental Kingfisher on the Avocet album by Bert and Martin Jenkins from 1978. It was left off the 1993 Hypertension CD release of From The Outside It was also left off the 2001 Castle Music CD release of From The Outside It has also been left off the 2016 remastered Earth Recordings CD release of From The Outside A rerecorded version did surface on 1990's Sketches with the new title of The Old Routine.

Nearly a year after the original recordings Charisma finally released A Rare Conundrum in May 1977. Dragonfly, Candyman and Three Dreamers were dropped for the Charisma release, but they added Looking For A Home, Cat And Mouse and 3 A.M.

The Yardbirds"
