mowdamowda 14th Sep 2024 | | Vinyl AlbumNeil Young - After The Gold Rush | When this was released in Australia it was not gatefold, so no shot of Neil on the couch, and had no lyric sheet.
|
mowdamowda 14th Sep 2024 | | Vinyl AlbumNeil Young - Harvest | I bought this album in Brisbane the week it was released and there was no lyric sheet with the album. Australian manufacturers were that cheap and stingy, would regularly make gatefold albums just single sleeve. I can't remember any Oz Neil Young album in the 70s being issued with the lyric sheet. Harvest was the 1st NY album released here with a gatefold. NY, Everybody, and Goldrush were all single sleeve.
|
mowdamowda 28th Aug 2024 | | Vinyl AlbumVarious Artists - Prime Cuts | The publishing date of 1975 for tracks 3 & 4 on side 2 of this album would suggest the release date is 1975 and not 1974.
|
mowdamowda 23rd Jul 2024 | | CD AlbumDonovan - A GIft From A Flower To A Garden | It should be noted that this CD is "Remastered from original MONO master tapes."
And a lovely transfer, even if it is mono.

mowdamowda 7th Nov 2021 | | Vinyl AlbumNeil Young - On The Beach | ady_lister
In Australia, in the 60s and 70s, the manufacturing of records was pretty pathetic. Thin flimsy covers and never a gatefold for any artist (well rarely). The price of an album was $5.50. The manufacturing cost to make a gatefold? A measly 20 cents. So they invariable said 'no' and we went without. However, when On The Beach was released here, they made it a gatefold! (no gatefolds for Neil's first three albums, but this one they do. Gives you an idea of the thinking, well, lack of, that held sway out here.

mowdamowda 31st Jul 2020 | | Vinyl AlbumEric Clapton - Eric Clapton | Yes, I bought this album in Oz the day it was released and the tracks are flipped on the Aussie one.
Not only that, after about 45 seconds into 'Slunky' the balance changes radically and for the remainder of the album volume is about 25% left channel - 100% right channel. (or vice versa).
BTW, the version shown here is a later RSO pressing. The original was Polydor

mowdamowda 31st Mar 2020 | | CD AlbumDonovan - A Gift From A Flower To A Garden | This is the first stereo release on CD
|
mowdamowda 31st Mar 2020 | | CD AlbumDonovan - A Gift From A Flower To A Garden | This CD is in MONO, well remastered, but mono.
|
mowdamowda 5th Mar 2020 | | Vinyl AlbumFrank Sinatra - In The Wee Small Hours | I'm pretty sure the release date for this 12" is the same as the 10" and the 7" EPs. All released on the 25th April 1955. Not 1956

mowdamowda 7th Dec 2019 | | Vinyl AlbumVarious Artists - Rock Generation Volume 2 | back cover is for Volume 1, not 2. :-(
|
mowdamowda 6th May 2017 | | Vinyl AlbumJohn Martyn - So Far So Good | A very good compilation, which John had no involvement in. The live version of I'd Rather Be The Devil is unique to this release.
This track eventually had an official CD release as the bonus track on the 2000 remaster of Solid Air

mowdamowda 5th May 2017 | | Vinyl AlbumPearls Before Swine - City Of Gold | Album cover has artist as Thos. Rapp / Pearls Before Swine
|
mowdamowda 5th May 2017 | | Vinyl AlbumPearls Before Swine - The Use Of Ashes | Side 1 track two, album cover has it listed as "From The Movie" label has it listed as "From The Movie Of The Same Name"
|
mowdamowda 4th May 2017 | | Vinyl AlbumPearls Before Swine - These Things Too | From wiki:
The album sleeve showed a 15th-century painting of Christ by Giovanni Bellini. The picture was removed from the version of the album issued in Germany because it showed Christ's nipple exposed
|
mowdamowda 4th May 2017 | | Vinyl AlbumPearls Before Swine - One Nation Underground | This West German pressing was distributed by 'Rosy Records" (?)
From Discogs:
Base Record - Italian (Bologna) indie label operating between January 1979 and April 2010.
This release has the same poster insert as the U.S. original release.

mowdamowda 2nd May 2017 | | Vinyl AlbumDonovan - H.M.S. Donovan | Okay, upon further investigation Dawn changed from the orange to the purple label somewhere in 1971. HMS Donovan was released in July 1971. My suggestion would be the label change happened midway through the pressing of HMS Donovan. Quite a fanciful hypothesis is it not? http://imgur.com/a/2J4B8
|
mowdamowda 2nd May 2017 | | Vinyl AlbumDonovan - H.M.S. Donovan | I'm surprised to hear that. I was a huge Donovan fan and when I heard this album was coming out had one specifically imported to Oz from the U.K. If there was a label change in the space of 4 weeks from release, I'll accept it. Will have to do a little research on this to find out what's what.
|
mowdamowda 30th Apr 2017 | | Vinyl AlbumDonovan - H.M.S. Donovan | The purple labels are the first issue (well, obviously not). :-(
|
mowdamowda 30th Apr 2017 | | CD AlbumJohn Martyn - Piece By Piece | Released around the start of the transition between vinyl and CD, this CD appeared in two variations with hardly any identifying indicators (except on the CD label). The standard vinyl release and this one with bonus tracks. A long wait until Tight Connection To My Heart was available on CD again, if you happened to miss this elusive release at the time

|

It started life as the instrumental Kingfisher on the Avocet album by Bert and Martin Jenkins from 1978.

It was also left off the 2001 Castle Music CD release of From The Outside
It has also been left off the 2016 remastered Earth Recordings CD release of From The Outside
A rerecorded version did surface on 1990's Sketches with the new title of The Old Routine.
|
mowdamowda 24th Apr 2017 | | Vinyl AlbumBlack Sabbath - Vol. 4 | Why does the label state "Powderworks"?
Is 7 Records the distributor?
From Wikipedia:
Powderworks Records is a record label established in 1977. Its headquarters are based in Brisbane, Australia. It is the home of Midnight Oil. Aside from recording, it made the Australian pressings of stuff on other labels, such as RCA, Columbia & Mute Records from 1978 to 1987

|
mowdamowda 23rd Apr 2017 | | Vinyl AlbumBert Jansch And Martin Jenkins - Avocet | Second album by Bert to be released on the Danish Exlibris label, this one in 1978. Was licensed to Charisma in February 1979.
|
mowdamowda 23rd Apr 2017 | | Vinyl AlbumBert Jansch - Poor Mouth | Charisma left these songs sitting on the shelf for a while and the Danish Ex-Libris label released this album in 1976. Nearly a year after the original recordings Charisma finally released A Rare Conundrum in May 1977. Dragonfly, Candyman and Three Dreamers were dropped for the Charisma release, but they added Looking For A Home, Cat And Mouse and 3 A.M.

S. Groin
Tracks 1 - 14 - MONO

|
mowdamowda 19th Mar 2017 | | Vinyl AlbumThe Yardbirds - Heart Full Of Soul | From the times on the label it would appear the Canadian issue has the alternate take of "I Wish You Would" and not the 45 take (which is 2.18) This take would also incorrectly appear on the 1971 LP "Remember ... The Yardbirds"

mowdamowda 31st May 2014 | | 78 RPMAl Hibbler - S'posin' / Don't Take Your Love From Me | Okay, this seems an obscure enough release for Al Hibbler.
If you're here you probably aren't just the casual browser.
I have many scans of Al's 78's which would take too long to transfer to here.
So if you're interested go to http://mossiehigh.com/Al_Hibbler/
Cheers
