All digitally spruced up, RC. By the way, did you get my reference to HD(Hot Dogs...woof, woof!)?

@RC, yeah! And we sit in front of this giggle box and chomp on our HD's(Hot Dogs) while trying to watch the garbage foisted on us by the commercial stations.

@23sjkidoo - I should clarify about channels in different countries on VHF. I believe the American/Canadian VHF channels were only 6Mhz wide(for NTSC) where in Australia, New Zealand and Europe where PAL and SECAM were used, the channels were 7Mhz wide. UHF channels for Australia, New Zealand and Europe were 8Mhz wide. I'm not sure of the American/Canadian UHF channels or if they were 7 or 8Mhz wide. There was an international system which determined channel frequencies, width and number of channels, and the colour systems in use. it was CCIR(though I'm not sure what the acronym stood for). But, aside from Australia and New Zealand, it was generally accepted that the 88-108Mhz frequencies were set aside for FM radio.

@RC - Not necessary! Show it as it was made. What's a couple of black stripes either side of the image going to matter?

Even though it's dated(made in the 1970s) and only in the 4:3 aspect ratio, this series would be a great replacement for the utter crap we're having to put up with on Australian TV at the moment.

The Ghosts Of Motley Hall (1976 - 1978)
Hi, RC. Okay, we now know Region 2 DVDs will play on Region 4 players, but this doesn't come anywhere near answering the question of whether "The Ghosts Of Motley Hall" is available for purchase in Australia.

@23skidoo, it depends on how the TV channels used the VHF spectrum in each country. In Australia, until the late 1970s we used the VHF band exclusively for TV and only started utilising UHF for translator installations for some regional stations. It wasn't until 1980 when SBS started their TV service on UHF Ch.28 and (briefly) VHF Ch.0 that the UHF band started to be used more widely. FM radio in Australia didn't start until 1974 and it was the advent of FM which forced some stations off the three TV channels that swallowed up the FM radio band. They were Ch.3(85-92Mhz), Ch.4(94-101Mhz) and Ch.5(101-108Mhz). It's that which allowed us to pick up TV audio on our radios in the days before the first FM radio stations started up, but you had to have that band on your radio. I don't think Canadian broadcasting authorities would allocate TV channels across the 88-108Mhz FM band there, they, like the USA, would keep the FM frequencies free for that purpose.

I certainly don't remember Mitch Pileggi as host but Leonard Nimoy is indelibly etched in my memory as host/narrator of this half-hour documentary series.

@Henry29, Cheers! Thanks for the info. I remember seeing an episode or three of the series as it had the briefest of runs on NBN-Newcastle(Australia). I think it was shown late at night, around 10.30pm or 11.00pm but can't remember what night it was on. As for Orbit, this show never showed up on our screens in Australia, though Basil Brush was a favourite with Aussie kids.

Thanks for the info, Jasper. Away from the added stickers on the front cover, "Special Price" and the other sticker showing the album title, the album is packaged in the same style as its USA counterpart. Curious to note the catalogue number: SPTC-1! What was going on there, I wonder. Why not put this LP in the normal catalogue sequence?

The Ghosts Of Motley Hall (1976 - 1978)
Thanks for the info, Carryonsydney and Radox The Green. As I said a couple of days ago, if shows like this haven't been on TV here in Australia, video retailers like J.B. Hi-Fi won't stock them. That's the big hassle here. We miss out on seeing these shows on broadcast TV and with the advent of home video, first on VHS or Beta tape, then on DVD or Blu-Ray, for the largest part, retailers here will take the attitude that "if the local stations didn't show these programmes, they'll mean nothing to the average punter(consumer), so there's no point in us stocking copies of theses series".

This show aired as afternoon fare on NBN in Newcastle Australia in the mid-1960s. I quite liked it but I was in my pre-teens at the time. The show was typically scheduled at either 4.00 or 4.30pm weekdays.

I recall a TV comedy series produced by HTV West starring Warren Mitchell(in a post-'Til Death Us Do Part role) which made it onto some regional stations here in Australia. Thing is, I can't remember the title but I think it was a political comedy.

Yes, RC, there was a prolonging of the track beyond the time the single played for by means of an extended instrumental "bridge" and the end of the track was also stretched(so I believe). It's a safe bet the extended version is on this album as it is, after all, the title track.

RC said: "Not forgetting the single lifted from the album A1" Of course! In all, the first four tracks on side A are stand-out tracks. I've still not looked to see if those cards are in my copy, but while I'm at it, Jasper, was the Australian sleeve(Probe label through EMI) the same as the US ABC/Dunhill issue?

This is another one we never saw in Australia. But it seems, Britain, with haunted towns like Derby, and places like Chillingham and Tutbury Castles, Leith Hall and such-like which are said to abound with ghosts, it's natural such a show would be popular there.

Hello, hello, hello! I bought a US issue of this LP back in 1973 but I did NOT see the extra "cards" in the package. Maybe I ought to investigate further into my copy to see if they're still there, undiscovered by me after 42 years of having this LP.
My pick of the tracks: A2 - MY OLD KENTUCKY HOME, A3 - PRELUDE TO MORNING(beautiful instrumental piece which leads nicely into) A4 - PIECES OF APRIL. Should also be noted that Kenny Rogers did a cover of B1 - TULSA TURNAROUND sometime in the late 1970s or early 1980s.
