Adventures Of Superman (1952 - 1958)
When colour TV finally arrived in Australia in 1975, we got to see this series in colour for the first time. Granted it was on film originally but some American company must've transferred that film-stock to NTSC colour videotape at some stage because the colour quality wasn't all that great. Now, if that film to tape transfer was done in England Europe(parts thereof) or even Australia, where we/they use the German-developed PAL colour system.... We'd have seen a far better colour reproduction indeed! Not that it would've improved the show itself in any way.

Pace Jubilee Singers - Oh Death / Shouting On
This label predates by roughly 2 years, the RCA acquisition of Victor Talking Machine Co. of Camden, NJ, USA. At this point in the company's history it was still owned(I believe) by its founder, German "entrepreneur", Emile Berliner. Berliner had also established "The Gramophone Company" in England as an offshoot of his "Deutsche Grammophon GmbH" in Germany. In 1927 Victor Talking Machine Co, was quite legitimately using the "Nipper"(Dog & Gramophone - HMV) trademark under licence from the British owner, as was Berliner's DGG. Two years later, when reps from RCA came sniffing around the Victor plant(RCA, back then, was little more than a subsidiary of General Electric, founded by Thomas A. Edison), they(RCA) wanted a larger factory to build radio sets. But when they saw what was being made at this Camden NJ plant.... That's the point where the Dog & Gramophone trademark should've vanished from the label, to be replaced by RCA's "button" logo. The HMV name and TM should've returned to the USA/Canada ONLY through EMI's near-outright purchase of Capitol in 1955.

Carole King - Tapestry
I have a first-issue copy of this on the A. & M.-distributed Ode label. The original year of issue was 1971, as W.B.lbl has already stated.

Interesting point. Back in late 1966 when Scott McKenzie recorded "San Francisco(Be Sure To Wear Flowers In Your Hair)" for Lou Adler's Ode label, Adler had it with CBS, by 1970, he'd taken his label to old mate, Herb Alpert and his partner, Jerry Moss, who then distributed the label under the umbrella of A. & M. Inc. Meanwhile, Adler's other enterprise, Dunhill Records, was under ABC distribution. I don't know exactly how long Ode remained with A. & M., but by 1977, it seems Ode was back where it started(of sorts), so the wheel had turned full circle, as it were.

At such a slow playing speed the sound quality wouldn't have been too "flash". As with tape, a slow speed's okay for spoken word content, but until the advent of Dolby NR and CrO2 tape, 1.875i.p.s.(that's decimal for 1 & 7/8 i.p.s.), a cassette would not be good for much beyond dictating a letter for your secretary to type out(if you had a secretary, that is).

@23skidoo, thanks for that info! Yeah, I heard Craig Charles got himself into a legal stoush. Glad it was resolved, though. It wouldn't surprise me that they'd use the Coronation Street sets for Back To Earth. Sets for one show get recycled for another. Remember "Peyton Place"? The outdoor set for the town centre was recycled and remodelled for the series, "Cade's County".

Craig Charles was doing Coronation Street, and Danny John-Jules was appearing in Death In Paradise as well, so they weren't exactly idle. Robert Llewellyn was presenting a science & technology show(title escapes me at the moment) so he wasn't exactly sitting on his hands either.

Would like to see a close-up of the trademark at bottom-right of front cover. Looks to be an earlier version of the Motown trademark before the more familiar "Big M" version.

Funny about this one, the "Volume 1" of 12 Greatest Hits was an MCA compilation from about 1974 or 1975. Anoth funny thing is that Tracks A2, Hello Again, B1, America and B6, Love On The Rocks are from the movie, The Jazz Singer, the soundtrack LP for which, was issued on the Capitol label, thus the copyright on these track is owned by EMI.

Life On An Australian Prairie - A Story Of Faith And Love
I have no knowledge of this at all. As for "Prairie" We call it "The Outback". Prairie is an American term which we in Australia generally rejected.

Etta James - Tell Mama
Well, ppint, now you know why I've stopped buying commercially-issued CDs. I look for LP's, hopefully first-issues but will settle for reissues as long as the sleeves haven't been(too drastically) redesigned. These Etta James tracks originally appeared on Argo, a Chess subsidiary. The Tell Mama LP would also have been originally issued on Argo and if this copy had been a first issue, it would've carried the Argo label. As it is, this is a re-issue and by MCA by the looks of it. A company that laughingly called itself Music Corporation of America! More like Money Corporation of America 'cause sure as eggs they don't give two hoots for the music!

Hey Monolith, ol' chum, be ve-e-e-r-r-r-y-y-y careful playing any of those early Vertigo label issues, especially the A-sides. Stare at them long enough and......(twilight zone theme kicks in about here) Ha-ha.

It's a sign of the times, I'm afraid. Quoting ppint: "it's bad enough, bigconglommeratentertainmentcorpsinc's claiming re-recordings & rechannellings to be the original recordings - but when they start claiming that the originals are re-recordings...!!! "
These multinationals don't give a rat's for the music they're issuing, or its history(providence). They just rake in the money, that's all they care about!

I'd have gone with the Jimmy Little track, Baby Blue(he was covering the George Baker Selection song) that would've boosted the Australian content on this album.

Not all LPs are worth buying! There's quite a bit of "dross" out there on vinyl or CD but occasionally one does find a gem. Like Yesterday(I'm writing this at 12.53am, Thursday, 23rd July, 2015) I was at my local recycling centre and picked up a good-condition copy of Bill Cosby's "200 Miles An Hour" LP. Cosby at his funniest! And paid just 50 cents for it! Would I make a clock out of it? No bloody way!. I'll transfer the contents to CD at my first chance.

@TopPopper: "....it's what's in the binary data track that counts" Did Berry Gordy really say THAT? Maybe he would've if he could borrow Dr. Who's tardis and travel forward in time..... As for me. I remaster my old vinyl onto CD using Sony Sound Forge to process the tracks into MP3 audio files, then burning them to disc using a Roxio programme for that purpose. I know I really shouldn't use the term "remaster" but for want of better terminology......

Okay, RC! That means the 33 only appeared on Brit. issues. EMI Australia used OSX and OEX prefixes for the Columbia label, with SOEX or SOSX on stereo issues.

You might be able to confirm this, RC, but did EMI ever use the 33OSX prefix at any stage, later dropping the '33' to leave only the 'OSX' prefix?(as per my theory expressed a few minutes ago).

We know that much already, RC, it's just that Gordon7009 spotted the album with a Parlophone label but sporting a Columbia catalogue number. Obviously a British issue because the Australian prefix would've been(at a guess) 33OSX, later amended to OEX, then SOEX for stereo issues.

Roy Orbison - There Is Only One Roy Orbison
That's the funny thing about Roy Orbison. Here in Australia(and NZ) as well as in the UK, all his material through to about 1972 or so, whether on Monument or M-G-M, all appeared on the London Label, though in Australia/NZ, EMI and Festival both were issuing Roy Orbison product, EMI on London(where they issued the brand on behalf of the UK owner, Decca), and Festival on Monument and often you'd see the same songs turning up under both brands. You'd buy "Working For The Man" on a London single, later it'll turn up on an EP issued on the Monument label. It'd be enough to do your head in!

Roy Orbison - There Is Only One Roy Orbison
Roy Orbison left Monument to sign with M-G-M in hopes of getting to appear in a movie or three. He got to do one movie, a contrived western flick called "The Fastest Guitar Alive". There was an accompanying soundtrack album, of which the two notable songs were "Pistolero" and "There Won't Be Many Coming Home" The album depicted here is Orbison's debut release for M-G-M in 1965.
