Neil Forbes 16th Feb 2015 | | Vinyl AlbumVarious Artists - Looney Tunes And Merrie Melodies | Er... more like E5, I reckon - Spaced OUT!!!(ha-ha).
Neil Forbes 16th Feb 2015 | | Vinyl AlbumNeil Diamond - Gold Diamond | Yeah, it's at A4 on the Solitary Man album.
Neil Forbes 16th Feb 2015 | | Vinyl AlbumNeil Diamond - Solitary Man | It had only occurred to me just before I sent you a PM, RC(initially speaking, ha-ha) re: your remark - "HMV Diamond love it" that you tied in the ad for the styli(plural of stylus) with the artist on the cover.... clever!
Neil Forbes 16th Feb 2015 | | Vinyl AlbumNeil Diamond - Solitary Man | That ad started appearing on all the EMI SCA-series releases(at my guess) across all labels but by the 1980s the series was replaced with the PLAY-1000 series(again across all EMI labels).
Neil Forbes 16th Feb 2015 | | Vinyl AlbumNeil Diamond - Gold Diamond | Geez, RC, we can't have Shilo on ALL the albums!(You really must hate that song with a passion - ha-ha!)
Neil Forbes 16th Feb 2015 | | Vinyl AlbumVarious Artists - Looney Tunes And Merrie Melodies | What? Are you serious? Calling Black Sabbath's Paranoid(Tr.3, Side A) a "Looney Tune" or Merrie Melody"? Whatever you've been puffing on, you'd better leave it alone, mate! It's doin' your head in!
Neil Forbes 16th Feb 2015 | | Vinyl AlbumNeil Diamond - Solitary Man | It's surprising just how much of Neil Diamond's backlists from his Bang, MCA(Uni) and CBS days are yet to surface on CD or(in some markets outside Australia) LP.
Neil Forbes 16th Feb 2015 | | Vinyl AlbumNeil Diamond - Gold Diamond | I thought Decca only had the licence for the Bang label in England in the mid-1960s then passed it to CBS there. Which makes it a surprise to see this early-1970s London issue of Neil Diamond's early work, which appeared on EMI/Stateside here in Australia.
Neil Forbes 16th Feb 2015 | | Vinyl AlbumNeil Diamond - Solitary Man | Longfellow Serenade is from his earlier days at CBS. The one I've yet to see anywhere on LP or CD is "The Time Is Now"which was the B-side to "Kentucky Woman" on the original single(mistakenly earlier credited it as on the back of "Thank The Lord..." Whoops!). Now there's a real RARITY!
Neil Forbes 16th Feb 2015 | | Vinyl AlbumNeil Diamond - Solitary Man | Where did you find the track, RC?
Neil Forbes 16th Feb 2015 | | Vinyl AlbumVarious Artists - Mellow Seventies | Harold Melvin billed without the Blue Notes? Either an oversight on the album or - a dreaded "re-recording", and if the latter, the question must be asked, how many more of the tracks are thus "re-recordings"? That's why I hold these labels in grave suspicion. They can't be trusted to issue authentic versions.
Neil Forbes 16th Feb 2015 | | Vinyl AlbumNeil Diamond - Solitary Man | The version of Shilo that Diamond did for MCA is a completely new(for that time and for that label) recording. They didn't remix the Bang version at all. They didn't use it, period!
Neil Forbes 16th Feb 2015 | | Vinyl AlbumNeil Diamond - Solitary Man | If you are on the look-out for Shilo on CD, the compilation to look for is "Neil Diamond - Classics - The Early Years" on CBS (Cat. #CDCBS-25531), issued in 1983 before Sony subsumed the CBS brand and replaced it with "Columbia", an act I resented as I always associated the Columbia name with EMI.
Neil Forbes 16th Feb 2015 | | Vinyl AlbumNeil Diamond - Solitary Man | I'm thinking the version of Shilo used here is the earlier album version. The 7" single version is on 20 Explosive Hits(Columbia[EMI] TVS-3).
Neil Forbes 16th Feb 2015 | | 78 RPMRoger Roger - Pleasure Drive / New Horizons | The only time I've ever come across 78rpm vinyl discs was when I was given a Lumar (brand) toy gramophone for Xmas (when I was 10 years old, or so), and the records that came with it carried the "kidditune" label, 5"-diameter discs that barely got to 2 minutes playing time.
(now I AM feeling positively ancient!)
Neil Forbes 16th Feb 2015 | | Vinyl AlbumElectric Light Orchestra - Discovery | RC, don't give up your day job just yet, ay? You're not quite ready to be a stand-up comic(I fear they'll tell you to "sit down"!)
Neil Forbes 16th Feb 2015 | | Vinyl AlbumNeil Diamond - Solitary Man | As it happens, I've got to look for a new copy as this one has a nasty crack in it(caused by accident, of course). Lucky for me I've got all the tracks saved as MP3 files.
Neil Forbes 16th Feb 2015 | | Vinyl AlbumNeil Diamond - Solitary Man | RC, you've scared the life out of me by telling me the Shilo LP is 45 years old(I'm feeling positively ancient now! ha-ha) Just a sec.... This LP will be 40 years old this year!(43 years old for the American issue), yoiks!
Neil Forbes 16th Feb 2015 | | Vinyl AlbumPerrey And Kingsley - Spotlight On The Moog (Kaleidoscopic Vibrations) | I have the two Electric Coconut Axis-issue LPs that I'll be putting on this site soon. In Britain they would've been on MFP.(unless someone beats me to it, that is!).
Neil Forbes 16th Feb 2015 | | Vinyl AlbumElectric Light Orchestra - Discovery | RC, what kind of "discovery" did you make while listening in the dark? And would your response have been "ELO, ELO, ELO, what 'ave we 'ere?"
Neil Forbes 16th Feb 2015 | | Vinyl AlbumNeil Diamond - Solitary Man | My most ambitious upload yet! Neil Diamond in a Best-Of LP with gatefold sleeve! This album was issued in 1975 here in Australia though Bang in the USA had issued the same compilation in 1972(though I couldn't say if the cover was the same).
Just seems that Neil Diamond's Bang records backlist gets hashed, rehashed, re-rehashed and re-re-rehashed every couple of years! And usually the same tracks keep turning up! I'm yet to see a compilation that carries the original B-side to Thank The Lord..., that track being The Time Is Now. I think I'd faint from shock if I saw that one turn up anywhere! It's truly one of his rarest! Must correct myself, the A-side was, in fact, Kentucky Woman Ouch!

Neil Forbes 16th Feb 2015 | | Vinyl AlbumPerrey And Kingsley - Spotlight On The Moog (Kaleidoscopic Vibrations) | This might be one you've gotta be "in the moog" for(ha-ha)

Neil Forbes 15th Feb 2015 | | Vinyl AlbumEbonites Steel Orchestra - Pan-O-Rama | This one again is NOT American, It originated from the West Indies. [Mod Edit - Noted and changed to Trinidad.]
Neil Forbes 15th Feb 2015 | | Vinyl AlbumElectric Light Orchestra - Discovery | Well, I never had this on cassette(unless I dubbed it onto tape myself) but initially I had it on LP, then CD, and have since acquired a couple more LP copies, one of which only had the inner sleeve. Should state for the "record" that mine was an Australian LP issue - no merchandising propaganda flyer!
Neil Forbes 15th Feb 2015 | | Vinyl AlbumShell Invaders Steel Orchestra - 1962 Carnival Calypso Hits | This is NOT an American issue! The country of origin is the West Indies(Caribean Islands).[Mod Edit - Noted changed to Trinidad.]

Neil Forbes 15th Feb 2015 | | CD AlbumVarious Artists - Calling All Rock 'n' Roll Collectors Volume 3 | Not one single name do I recognise in the entire list, nor do I recognise the song titles. Were any of them even minor "hits"?
Neil Forbes 15th Feb 2015 | | Vinyl AlbumEsther und Abi Ofarim - Noch einen Tanz | Hi, RC, No, That's one I missed out on!
