Neil Forbes 14th Feb 2015		CD Album The Beatles - Can't Buy Me Love	I may well put a CD together of The Beatles, but I won't put it out for public sale. Some of the commercially-made CDs I've seen of late, I read the back panel of some various artist issues and see words to the effect that some tracks are re-recorded.... that's what ended it for me, I don't buy commercial CDs at all any more! Simply put, I can't trust them to issue authentic versions. I do my own CDs for myself and a few friends.... and they are STRICTLY NOT FOR SALE!
Neil Forbes 14th Feb 2015		CD Album The Beatles - Can't Buy Me Love	I'll bet Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr (Richard Starkey) would be aware of these and they'd be fuming! Absolutely livid! Shame on Canada for lifting the copyright protections from these tracks.

Neil Forbes 14th Feb 2015		Vinyl Album Various Artists - Vintage Music	These Vintage Music albums were issued on CD, as it happens, From memory they were issued with two volumes to each disc(Vol.1 & 2, 3 & 4, and so on) and I think MCA was still under Warner distribution at the time. Just looked on "My Page" - Saw that this is my 20th upload album, I've reached a milestone!

RC I think you've been laced up a bit there(don't worry RC, I know you've been attacked by "keyboard gremlins" and meant to type 'show'). As for that last little "do-o-i-ing" at the end of Mama Told Me..., yes it's there, waiting to trap another unwary radio presenter.
Neil Forbes 14th Feb 2015		Vinyl Album Various Artists - Vintage Music	If you click for close-up of the A-side label, you'll see Mama Told Me by Three Dog Night, shown as from 1969, and you'll see the other tracks also have their years of first issue shown. The series from which this album is drawn, seems to be a mish-mash of periods and genres, from Pop/Rock, R. & B., Doo-Wop and Country. The albums don't run in year order, and from what I've seen of others in the series, some tracks may appear on more than one volume. You might say this series is "chronically non-chronological!" I have three others in this series, but I don't have the whole set. I only bought the LPs for the tracks I wanted. Maybe I'll put the others on, but then again... maybe not. Don't know yet.
Neil Forbes 13th Feb 2015		Vinyl Album The Beatles - Magical Mystery Tour	This one I'll from here on refer to as a "submarine" album(no, not Yellow Submarine, that's another album!) Why "submarine"? Because it keeps "resurfacing on this site every so often, and in the shops too! Every time I spot this album in shops I visit, it's ALWAYS this 1971 Apple USA issue! I'm yet to lay eyes on an Aussie or Brit issue of this album anywhere except on this site!

Mas it Motown? And if not, then who did manufacture them? And did they seek licencing from Motown?
Neil Forbes 13th Feb 2015		Vinyl Album Wes Harrison - You Won't Believe Your Ears	I can provide a front cover for the Australian issue, if you want it! Thing is, it's an early 1970s stereo version. This album, for those who haven't heard it before, will have you on the floor, rolling around laughing until your sides ache. It IS truly a hilarious album!
Neil Forbes 12th Feb 2015		Vinyl Album Various Artists - 20 Explosive Hits	Well, I found out about California Soul and learned that an Aussie issue DOES exist TMO-9128. The only question is, same coupling? The A-side was Onion Son (with Valerie Simpson replacing a desperately-ill Tammi on vocals). Understandable because Onion Song was recorded close to the time of the single's issue while California Soul was recorded in 1967 and kept "on ice" until it was put on as the flip-side to Onion Song.

Neil Forbes 12th Feb 2015		Vinyl Album Various Artists - 20 Explosive Hits	Quite a few Aussie tracks here! A2, A7, B2, B3, B5, B6, B7. Seven out of the twenty are by Aussies, not a bad average! A couple of these have not seen the light of day in Australia as singles in their own right(Al Martino, Marvin Gaye/Tammi Terrell), and the Doug Parkinson In Focus track is, in fact, a B-side. The tracks are generally 1969 and 1970 vintage recordings though Neil Diamon is the odd one out, his track goes back to 1968. This is the album that kicked off the Explosive Hits series!

Telefunken/Decca, of course! I know many of the artists on this set but a lot of the songs are unfamiliar(or, alternately, familiar but not by those doing them here).

Geez he sounded different than when he was hangin' round that Sugar Shack and pickin' daisy petals all day long! All those bottle of wine must've got to him, probably the reason why he was goin' away!(Just heard somethin' - ain't that rain?).

Neil Forbes 12th Feb 2015		Vinyl Album Various Artists - 20 Red Hot Hits	RC: "A4 twelve years later he was writing a classic" Actually, RC, it's more like 14 years as "Race With The Devil" was already two years old by the time it was included in this album. It was "fired" out of that particular Gun in 1968! Gurvitz composed his Classic in 1982.
Neil Forbes 11th Feb 2015		Vinyl Album The Fireballs Featuring Jimmy Gilmer - Bottle Of Wine	I think Jimmy Gilmer was long gone from The Fireballs by the time they recorded Bottle Of Wine/Can't You See I'm Tryin' in 1967. I was in my first year of high school in 1968 when Bottle Of Wine started getting airplay here in Australia(we lagged behind Britain and America when it came to records from those countries appearing here). But there was no mention of Jimmy on the record back then. Just looking at the contents, disappointing to note Can't You See I'm Tryin' missing from the album.
Neil Forbes 11th Feb 2015		Vinyl Album Redeye - Redeye	A1 and B5 are A- and B-sides of the single which carries the catalogue number 105(though I could find my copy and check for accuracy of my guess). The single was issued in Australia by Festival in 1971(a year after US issue) but I can't be sure if Festival issued the album.

Neil Forbes 11th Feb 2015		Vinyl Album Various Artists - 20 Original Hits Of The 70s	I have "Mama Told Me" on a volume of an MCA series, "Vintage Music Collector's Series", #19, shows the track(at Side 1/Tr.1) as 1969 and gives the original Dunhill 45rpm number as 4239. The series of LPs was being issued in 1987 while MCA was under Warner distribution and this volume's catalogue number was 5343-1.
Neil Forbes 11th Feb 2015		Vinyl Album Jim Reeves - Jim Reeves' Golden Records	Up to 1969 when Australian RCA issues carried the "button" logo on a lack background, we never saw the Victor name. Thus they were simply RCA! That "button" logo was all that should've been on American/Canadian issues too! The HMV "Nipper" logo should "NEVER" have been seen on any RCA/Victor product post-1929! The Gramophone Co. of England OWNED AND STILL OWNS that trademark(through EMI)! RCA should've only got the Victor name and the plant at Camden, New Jersey, NOTHING ELSE!

Neil Forbes 11th Feb 2015		Vinyl Album Various Artists - 20 Red Hot Hits	A8 wasn't intended for an LP track(Don Lane may not have been scheduled to do one at the time) so the track was recorded in mono at a Melbourne studio. I think, apart from Col Joye and Kevin Jacobsen's ATA studios, the only other Stereo-equipped studio for Festival was at Ultimo(Sydney) where Pat Aulton was resident producer(Neil Sedaka's Wheeling West Virginia was recorded there). At least that may have been the situation in 1969.
