plerner SUBS 25th Oct 2023 | | Vinyl AlbumJackie DeShannon - You Won't Forget Me | Jackie DeShannon recorded "Try to forget him" in 1961, although her version didn't appear until this "You won't forget me" album came out in 1965. P J Proby put out a single on Liberty of "Try to forget her", in 1961. Proby's song is ponderous and recalls Roy Orbison. Jackie's is bright and suggests Bobby Vee. Proby's says it was written by Dick Glasser. DeShannon's says that she wrote the song. Despite vastly different arrangements and a change of gender, they are the same song!
Now, who can work that one out?

plerner SUBS 28th Jun 2022 | | Vinyl AlbumThe Beatles - Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band | I have just noticed (after very many years) that my copy of this album has the title "Sgs. Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band" on the spine of the gatefold sleeve. Is this a misprint, or a rarity, and should I be excited?

|
plerner SUBS 8th Feb 2022 | | CD AlbumSammi Smith - Looks Like Stormy Weather · 1969-1975 | A fairly sombre set of reflective songs, though the previously unreleased "Desperados waiting for a train" is amazing.

plerner SUBS 13th Apr 2021 | | CD AlbumBob Fox And Stu Luckley - Box Of Gold | Their original record company failed to make their (excellent) albums available into the CD era, and so Bob and Stu re-recorded the material almost identically, note for note. Sounds a bit familiar, Taylor Swift?

|
plerner SUBS 27th Nov 2019 | | CD AlbumVarious Artists - Christmas Motown | It's both lazy and disrespectful for albums such as this not to include composer / songwriter credits. The "project co-ordinator", Paul Fernandes, gets himself a mention however.
