RogerFoster 23rd Jun 2019 | | CD AlbumMarvin Gaye - You're The Man | This has exactly the same Catalogue Number and Barcode as the US version already entered, the only notable differences being the legal blurb on the bottom of the CD Disc, and the absence of the FBI Anti-Piracy warning on the back cover.
I had intended to mention in the notes the fact that there is a 12 page booklet containing a four page essay by David Ritz (the author of "Divided Soul, The Life Of Marvin Gaye" and co-composer of "Sexual Healing") and track credits etc. Maybe some kind moderator will add that to the notes?
PhilMH has mentioned as a comment on the US version that he has doubts as to whether all of these tracks were ever really going to be issued as a US "You're The Man" LP. He isn't the only one!!

RogerFoster 22nd Jun 2019 | | CD AlbumVarious Artists - Motor City Soul | I'm not certain what the shocking spelling mistake on the front cover mentioned by Zabadak is supposed to be.
If it is the spelling of Betty LaVette as "Betty Lavett" then the original US single of "Witchcraft In The Air" spelt it that way and it would be the back cover that has the error.
Otherwise I am stumped!!

RogerFoster 7th Jun 2019 | | Vinyl AlbumThe Beach Boys - All Summer Long | Track B1 is actually called "Wendy" (not "Wemdy"). It's a pity that there is no image of side 2 here so we can see whether this is a typo or the label does have it as "Wemdy".
|
RogerFoster 25th May 2019 | | 12" SingleShalamar - Uptown Festival | "Simon's Theme" is a thinly disguised version of the Jerry Ross instrumental "Bok To Bach" by Fathers Angels. I see that the "official" UK release of "Bok To Bach" in 1968 on MGM 1459 omitted any writer credits … seems Simon Soussan just filled in the blanks.

RogerFoster 29th Oct 2018 | | CD AlbumThelma Houston And Jerry Butler - Thelma & Jerry: Two To One | Added images of the CD Disc, the back cover and the tracklisting as per the CD Booklet.
The booklet that comes with this has 20 pages, with notes by Charles Waring, the tracklists (which are on pages 16 and 17 of the booklet) and discographical information.

RogerFoster 28th Oct 2018 | | CD AlbumThelma Houston - The MoWest Album (Expanded Edition) | Added the tracklist as printed in the booklet (image #1782099).
The booklet has 16 pages with notes by Sharon Davis, discographical information and producer's notes by David Nathan.

RogerFoster 25th Oct 2018 | | Vinyl AlbumDonnie Elbert - Dancin' The Night Away | This is a collection of remakes of some popular Pop/Disco tunes of the time, the tracks having respectively been US hits for The Sylvers, The Bee Gees, Leo Sayer, Tavares, The Average White Band, The Bee Gees (again), Marilyn McCoo & Billy Davis Jr, Deniece Williams, Thelma Houston and Eddie Kendricks.
|
RogerFoster 15th Oct 2018 | | Vinyl AlbumFour Tops - Greatest Hits Vol 2 | This 14 track collection is largely the same as the US Version (which contained 12 tracks) released on Motown M740 L a few weeks earlier. However this contains four tracks that weren't on the US version and the US version has two tracks that aren't on this.
The four additional tracks are "Simple Game", Do What You Gotta Do" and "I Can't Help Myself" (all of which had been UK Hits in the two years prior to the release of this collection) plus "MacArthur Park (Pt 2)" (which was their current US Hit but ended up never being released as a UK 45).
The two omitted tracks are - "Still Water (Peace)" (the Part 2/"B" Side of their "Still Water (Love)" single) and "You Keep Running Away" (a 1967 release that had made it onto the UK version of "Four Tops Greatest Hits" three years earlier)

RogerFoster 20th Sep 2018 | | Vinyl AlbumVarious Artists - Capitol Soul Special | This was actually released as a "Promotional 12" Single".
It came out as part of a promotional campaign by Capitol that included 12" singles by Natalie Cole (12 CLX 101, Party Lights/Inseperable/This Will Be/Sophisticated Lady) and The Sylvers (12 CLX 102, High School Dance/Lovin' You Is Like Lovin' The Wind/Boogie Fever/Hot Line).
As such it is also appearing here on 45Worlds as a 12" single.

RogerFoster 4th Sep 2018 | | 12" SingleAshley And Jackson - Solid Gold (24ct Vocal Mix) | The musical arrangement on this release owes quite a lot to a 1975 release .. "Mighty Love Man" by Black Stash.

RogerFoster 4th Sep 2018 | | CD AlbumThe Spinners - While The City Sleeps | I'm not 100% certain that the date of 24th August is correct PhilMH as your reasoning for it being the 31st sounds quite compelling. However I ordered it on pre-release from Amazon and I'm sure that they had the anticipated release date as 24th August on their site.
For what it's worth my copy was dispatched by Amazon on 30th August (I received it on the 31st August), and I know of one person who ordered it direct from Kent/Ace who received it on the 29th..

RogerFoster 11th Aug 2018 | | CD AlbumThe Supremes - The Supremes Sing Holland Dozier Holland (Expanded Edition) | I wasn't sure whether that was the Cat# or not PhilMH as it is the same as the barcode, hence me leaving it blank. The entry on here for the US edition has a Cat# that looks more like a Cat# to me, but currently there are no scans/images.
Confusing isn't it!!

RogerFoster 28th Jul 2018 | | CD AlbumVarious Artists - A Cellarful Of Motown! Volume 2 | Having just listened to this from start to finish for the first time in at least half a dozen years I've realised that when I originally entered this on 45Worlds I omitted to mention that there are two "hidden" tracks - the two sides of a 45 that was specially pressed up by Motown in 1964 for distribution among members of the British Tamla-Motown Appreciation Society.
I've not been able to find the disc on 45Cat, but the disc is on Discogs, complete with mention of how it is included in this CD Compilation.
Disc 1 ends with side 1 of the 45, Disc 2 ends with side 2 of the 45.
Hopefully one of the Mods will pick up on this and add the two hidden tracks here.

RogerFoster 21st Jul 2018 | | Vinyl AlbumMartha And The Vandellas - Dance Party | The labels of the "Wild One"/"Dancing Slow" 45 issued in November 1964 as Gordy 7036 have this LP being called "Wild One" ... presumably the name of the LP was changed to "Dance Party" after the "Wild One" single performed relatively poorly (#34) on the BB Hot-100.

RogerFoster 7th Jul 2018 | | CD AlbumVarious Artists - The Class Of Mayfield High | According to the inlay notes for the 2005 CD "Chicago Soul Survey" (GVCD 3027) the vocals on Track 17 ( listed as "You Babe" by Otis Leavill on this CD) are actually by Chicago songwriter/producer Carl Davis.

RogerFoster 27th May 2018 | | CD AlbumVarious Artists - The Northern Soul Of SHRINE | ReviewThis is a curious release, as it is essentially a pared down version of two compilation CDs that had been previously released by Kent/Ace .. (1998's Eddie Singleton Presents - Shrine - The Rarest Soul Label and Shrine - The Rarest Soul Label Volume 2 from 2002).
What the folks at Goldmine have done here is cherry-pick 29 (from 48) of the most "Northern"/"Dancefloor Friendly" tracks on the two Kent/Ace CDs and add one more, the beat-ballad "Wait 'Til I Get There" by Tippi & The Wisemen as an ender to finish off the set. This compilation also introduces the 29 tracks in exactly the same order as they were introduced on the Kent/Ace CDs .. tracks 1-12 are on the 1998 CD and tracks 13-29 are on the 2002 CD .. one can only imagine what the folks at Kent/Ace thought about that!!
Musically this should appeal to anyone remotely interested in mid '60s Soul and the whole "Northern Soul" phenomenon; the SHRINE label was founded by three people formerly associated with Motown .. Eddie Singleton, Raynoma Gordy (the estranged wife of Motown boss Berry Gordy) and Stanley Ossman (Raynoma's half brother) .. so musical similarities with what was being released on the Detroit label abound, however there is also a huge influence apparent from Chicago vocal groups like The Impressions and The Radiants, so this CD ends up sounding remarkably similar to some Chess "Northern Soul" CD collections.
This is the one track that wasn't on either of the Kent/Ace compilations ...

RogerFoster 1st May 2018 | | MagazineBlues & Soul | This ended being the final edition of "Blues & Soul" in its bi-weekly printed format, something I got to learn about a couple of weeks after its publication via this thread on The Soulful Detroit Forum.
For a few years the magazine was only available on-line, however it did temporarily return in printed form in August 2010 (as witnessed in this archived Soulful Detroit Forum thread) and from a couple of years onwards returned as a bi-monthly publication.

RogerFoster 30th Apr 2018 | | CD AlbumVarious Artists - Stax 50th Anniversary Celebration | It would make sense that this was issued in 2008, as the first releases on Stax (or Satellite as it was initially known) were in 1958. However this collection was advertised as being available in "Blues & Soul" 995 (9th May 2007) -- Image #1646824.
The advert would relate to its UK "Release" but I can't imagine for one moment that it was officially available in The UK prior to The US, indeed the UK "Release" may have been a batch of US pressings as was happening with some other collections around that time.
Discogs have the US release date as 13th March 2007, which seems very likely to me. According to an Advert in "Blues & Soul" 996 the UK issue was on 21st May 2007.
