sladesounds 14th Dec 2015 | | Vinyl AlbumAlice Cooper - From The Inside | The front and rear of this sleeve has hinged flaps that open out (as shown in the scans). There is also a hinged flap on the inside being the door marked "quiet room". Inside the door is the legend "Inmates - In memory of Moonie" a reference to Keith Moon a member of Alice's drinking club "The Hollywood Vampires" who had died a few weeks prior to the albums release.

sladesounds 5th Dec 2015 | | Vinyl AlbumBlack Sabbath - Master Of Reality | I have, based on the back cover and labels amended this release to 1976. This 1971 album seems to have first been reissued then and also again in the 1980s. Can any one confirm this as it will affect the other NEMS Black Sabbath reissues.

The "Sold in the UK..." remains on the label.

I must have watched more rubbish TV in my teens than I usually admit too

sladesounds 9th Nov 2015 | | BookDave Thompson - Goldmine Standard Catalog Of American Records | I bought this as more of a reference rather than a price guide. If you want current valuation of records two useful online resources are:
Popsike & Collectors Frenzy
which both summarize EBay selling prices
I like Popsike as you can see the trends on how some items rise and fall in price over a given time.

sladesounds 2nd Nov 2015 | | CD AlbumThe Beatles - Please Please Me | These were (still are?) available for download on various sites so that CD-Rs could be burned. Be warned the Purple Chick web site states "Purple Chick discs are fan created and NEVER FOR SALE!!! Seriously, if you pay money for them you were ripped off - someone somewhere sold what they obtained for free. Not cool."
A very good series of bootlegs as far as bootlegs go.
Gilbert - nice entry but can you in future add composer credits so as to save someone else having to do it.

sladesounds 28th Oct 2015 | | CD AlbumMatthew Sweet And Susanna Hoffs - Completely Under The Covers | Sid n Susie (Sweet and Hoffs) nail the covers market - an excellent selection of tunes.
As stated by Susanna Hoffs in the accompanying booklet "... making these recordings just felt like two music nerds getting together and having a really good time..." and that's how they sound, a great selection of sometimes the more obscure tune covered to perfection.

sladesounds 20th Oct 2015 | | TVIt Ain't Half Hot Mum (1974 - 1981) | Very much of it's time this comedy series actually was quite sucessful and was (for it's time) rather funny. The biggest talking point these days is all the non-PC points such as Asian characters being portrayed by white actors (Michael Bates playing Rangi Ram etc.) and how wrong that is.
The colonial theme that was the show is also labeled as racist however many like me have noted that the Asian characters were often portrayed as being more intelligent and knowledgable than the "white" soldiers and the officers were type cast as being upper class fools. It was most of the time the English (and the Welsh Sergeant Major) who were the butt of the jokes.
Windsor Davies screaming at his troops, calling them a bunch of "poofs" was for the times it was set in historical correct. Ok it isn't in 2015 politically correct but that was the way it was in the Army during the 1940s (and it continued that way well into the 21st century).
The one fact I love is as TheJudge says Michael Bates (Bearer Ranji Ram) was born in India and learned Hindi before English. In a 2013 interview with The Telegraph Jimmy Perry (the writer) protested that Michael was never "blacked up"... it was more of a light tan.

sladesounds 4th Oct 2015 | | BookAlex James - Bit Of A Blur | Rated 8/10A good overview of the Britpop era by the bass player of Blur.
The book flies along at a good pace and is enjoyable and funny view of the ups and downs of being in a (successful) band during the Cool Britainna period of the 1990s.
It documents his excesses (he estimates to have spent £1m on cocaine and booze before sobering up) and the music scene around that time with references to his social circle that included the likes of Damien Hirst and Keith Allen.
He comes across as, rather than a rock star rebel, an intelligent man with good taste making the most of what his money can buy before slowing down and becoming a family man (with cheese!)
Worth a read whether you are a Blur fan or not.
