Fats Domino - Blueberry Hill / Honey Chile
The back story for Fats Domino's "Blueberry Hill" (Imperial 5407, U. S. 78 rpm issue, 1956-1957):

This issue is the only pressing that was produced with a completely undamaged and correct master tape.

Upon the release of the original Imperial 45 (X5407) as well as the album cut (Imperial LP 9028) an anomaly suddenly crops up, which can be heard at 1:06 into the recording at the lyric "vows we made". It was this version that almost exclusively was heard on radio, jukeboxes and home record players at the time. It is unknown when or how this apparent tape stretch or "wow" occurred during the pressing process, but it represented an unrepairable issue on the master tape.

Shortly thereafter, an unknown audio engineer at Imperial decided to "repair" the master with a transfer edit of the original "vows we made" to "vows you made" which was lifted from a passage heard later in the composition. It is this edited take which has been used on virtually all subsequent vinyl and CD reissues throughout the intervening years.

Freddy Martin - Shoo Shoo Baby / Cuddle Up A Little Closer
The four covers of sheet music related to "Cuddle Up A Little Closer" depict changes in both the title of the song and the spelling of Otto Hauerbach's name as time went on.

586789/790: Two variations of sheet music from the song's original publication in 1908.

586791: A 1932 cover of the sheet music depicting the change in spelling of Hauerbach's name.

586793: A 1943 cover of the sheet music with the revised spelling, issued with the release of the Betty Grable 20th Century-Fox film "Coney Island".

By the 1940s, the Harbach spelling variation was listed on virtually all commercial releases of the title. It is also under this spelling that he is listed in the ASCAP database.

Earl Robinson provides the introductory commentary for this release. Robinson gives credit to his co-writer on "The House I Live In," Lewis Allan, in his remarks. Lewis Allan is the pseudonym Abel Meeropol used on many of his compositions.

An interesting side note:

Abel Meeropol, who also composed "Strange Fruit" which became one of Billie Holiday's signature songs, would adopt the two young sons (Michael and Robert) of Julius and Ethel Rosenberg following their executions on espionage charges in June, 1953.

The A and B sides are listed in compliance with the entries for this issue as published in the Sears discography. However, the audio files found at archive.org are listed in reverse.

I'm not at all familiar with the titles to be able to identify one from the other (Scott's was never one of my favorite bands), so these may have to be revised if the Sears discography turns out to be wrong.

If anyone knows which is which feel free to leave a note.

Hal McIntyre - If You Please / The Sheep In The Meadow
I haven't been able to come up with a verifiable composer attribution for "The Sheep In The Meadow."

It is not listed in the ASCAP database; the only listing in the BMI database does not appear to be the same tune. The song was part of a V Disc recording session on October 22, 1943 in New York's RCA Victor studios, from which this cut was taken. Also recorded in a November, 1943 during a Standard Transcription recording session. Then it was included on the Armed Forces Radio Service "One Night Stand" transcription of the band's broadcast at Elitch's Garden, Denver, Co., August 12, 1944.

Apparently it was never commercially released on any of the major labels.

Manhattan Beach Coast Guard Band - Semper Paratus / Hail, Purdue
Van Boskerck immortalized the town of Unalaska, Alaska in 1927 after writing the music for "Semper Paratus" there. It was the only thing of any note to ever happen in the town (except for the Spanish Flu outbreaks of 1900 and 1919 which almost wiped out the entire population and its brief claim to fame as the center of the king crab fishing industry.)

"American Patrol" was not only a popular patriotic composition of the late 19th century, but was further popularized on the pop market in the 1940s by the Jerry Gray arrangement of the tune performed by the Glenn Miller Orchestra. Their rendition reached #15 on the Billboard charts.

Rocket78:

You have posted the Army's issue of the V Disc series. The previously posted release with the same catalog number is part of the Navy's issue of their V Disc series. There also is a third Marine Corps series of these discs. The Navy and Marine Corps releases have the same catalog numbers, but the Army series does not.

This particular Army issue was a part of the "L" release package released in September, 1944. The Navy release was part of that series "N" release package, issued in September, 1945.

The information regarding a possible secondary issue with the catalog number 269 is incorrect.
