Quote: 6702 TPS Printed and made by Garrod & Lofthouse Ltd. Patents Pending T 2566 ST 2566

TPS appears regularly at the bottom of LP sleeves, and maybe EP sleeves as well.

It is the acronym for THE PLATING SERVICE, a company that prepared the Lacquers from the master tapes of a release, and then the mothers and stampers used when vinyl was finally being pressed for commercial release.

I found the information a few years back by accident whilst using Discogs….

The Beatles - With The Beatles
……60 years gone by since this release on 22-Nov-1963. My twin sister bought the mono UK LP 32/6d? with money she earned as a school girl Saturday employee at Jones & Higgins Department Store, of Rye Lane, Peckham, London, (now long gone). Considering that she only earned £1.00d pre-decimal for her one day a week job, in Nov/Dec 1963 when she purchased the album, she actually expended over one and a half weeks wages to own this release.

She was like many other 15 years old females a big fan of The Beatles, and her crush was George Harrison. She probably bought the LP during her lunch break from the Reed Record Centre, situated further up Rye Lane, before taking her acquisition back to her Department “Prams & Layettes”. When she arrived home, our younger brother and l were eager to listen to her LP, the very first long player bought by any member of our family of six, including Mater and Pater. Previously we had about 4 EPs and a dozen 45s…..soon to change.

We literally played that Beatles LP to death, and early on I noticed that Side B track one “Roll Over Beethoven” jumped in a couple of places. All other songs seemed okay. My sister took it back, and exchanged for another copy, by that jumped as well, so she kept that and got on with it.

Have any other owners of the original 1963 mono Issue PMC 1206 had issues with that particular track ROLL OVER BEETHOVEN??

Bob Dylan - Hard Rain
Shelter From The Storm - 5:24
[YouTube Video]
…..back in 1976, I promised my twin sister that I would record a mix-tape (cassette) of Bob Dylan songs for her to play at home whilst ironing or such. She had seen Dylan live at the Royal Albert Hall venue in 1966….I did not attend.
I got a new C-60 cassette and put together a playlist of tunes from my own collection plus a couple of LP’s I borrowed from work including this release. I included ‘Love Minus Zero / No Limit’, Like A Rolling Stone’, ‘Positively 4th Street, ‘Mr Tambourine Man’, ‘Hurricane’, ‘Subterranean Homesick Blues’, ‘It's All Over Now Baby Blue’, ‘It Ain't Me Babe’, ‘A Hard Rain's A-Gonna Fall, a couple others I do not recall, and ‘Shelter From The Storm’.

I gave the mixtape the title “ZIMMERMAN RIDES AGAIN” and delivered the tape to her, she was pleased. Some years later, I was giving her a lift in my car, and she produced the cassette and asked me to play it on my cassette/radio, and added ‘keep it’ as she no longer had a cassette player. I did play it, and couldn’t for the life of me remember why the track Shelter From The Storm was on this tape. Years later (2010) I watched a US tv series called FLASHFORWARD 786936801743 and at the end of an episode on a TV screen was an image of Bob Dylan playing live this song from the 1976 concert…..so here it is, I thought that Bobby did good, and he looked like he was enjoying hisself…..

as they say, better late than never…..
To answer a request set by Ziggy72 18th March 2021, ST-1 is Stage One Records, who I believe was an importer and exporter of vinyl products back in 1979.
The MCPS royalty sticker priced at 5p was supposed to be affixed to singles imported mainly from US to UK, and of course a 12” Disco record was technically a single, while LP’s and equivalent length cassettes and 8-track tapes attracted a 25p MCPS royalty sticker.

From an earlier post of mine….
“ Other royalty stamp codes actually printed on labels I think I remember were:-
DE - Disc Empire Ltd
REC - Record Corner, Balham
CIT - City Sounds, Proctor Street, W.1.
WIN - Windsong Music
Virgin - self explanatory
FOX - Mr Fox, Croydon, maybe incorrect.
ST-1 - Stage One Records”

….I was up early, and watched series 1, episode 1 out of interest, with eleven guest stars (TalkingPictures 0600-0700hrs, Wed 08-Nov-2023, UK, check listings)

Episode 1, Series 1”Who Killed Holly Howard” first aired Fri 20-Sep-1963 in US, I presume. Guest Stars listed as per IMDb

The following all received 'Special Guest Stars In Alphabetical Order' credits
Elizabeth Allen,
William Bendix,
Bruce Cabot,
Rod Cameron,
Fred Clark,
Jay C. Flippen,
Cedric Hardwicke (as Sir Cedric Hardwicke), Stephen McNally,
Suzy Parker,
Zasu Pitts
and Will Rogers Jr..

This was Zasu Pitt’s last appearance as she had died three months before this episode aired.
I was a lively fifteen year old when this aired in US, and being in London, England the show must have been aired on either BBC or ITV as there were no other channels available at that time, just the two, so I’m guessing at ITV unless anyone knows better.

Later episodes had an average of six guest stars.

Flamin' Groovies - Shake Some Action
FYI the car on the cover is not a Jag-WAAR, as our US cousins call them, it’s a Daimler Sovereign sedan/saloon available with 2.8 or 4.2 litre straight six engines, or a 5.3 litre V12 engine. It’s hard to tell from the front view, but a 2-door pillarless Coupe was also available with the same engines as the sedan.
I checked the number plate, and that car is long gone (scrapped), and they were in essence ‘badge engineered’ Jaguars.
I used to own a ‘real’ Daimler many moons ago, before Jaguar bought Daimler.

Review
Two of my second tier favourite actors come together in a spirited romp “good guys vs. Bad Guys”, except the two good guys Bobby (Denzel Washington) an undercover DEA agent, and Stig (Mark Wahlberg) a covert U.S. Navy Petty Officer are also bad guys, robbing Banks, torching cars and restaurants and killing people, whilst also attempting to murder each other.
Practically a comedy, but with darker overtones and action throughout, the best line in the film is when African-American Bobby turns to caucasian Stig and says…..

….Don’t get all “We Are the World” on me…!! Priceless

Whilst going through a pile of old newspapers I found a Daily Mail dated Friday 19-Sep-2008, with the offer of the above CD.
I bought the newspaper and got the CD, the paper cost me 50p (96 pages) and the two front headlines were "CRACKDOWN ON TRADER SHARKS" and "anger of two mothers as girl stabbed by mental patient fights for life".

I also have (but not for long) Daily Mail dated Thursday 18-Sep-2008, with the offer of a free copy of Heaven 17 - The Luxury Gap CD, which I obtained.
I link that original CD release CDV 2253, but the Daily Mail free version CD is not on the database as yet.
