[no artist listed] - Abide With Me
I tried to listen in to what they were saying at the start... but I think it was just the "producer" or director of the session positioning people in the studio (Probably due to the bit of feedback you hear at the start.

-I did learn my lesson about mould spreading to other records a year or so back, after I placed one with others, that I intended to get around to listening to at a later date... only to go back and find a miniature vinyl mould farm developing :( ... so I always just give them the once over even before storing records I don't intend to immediately listen to... always making sure they are completely dry before doing so... warm and damp
ye moulde doth love!

(Have I used the correct spelling of "mould" ? - or is it the other one: "Mold"... mould...mold, mould, mold....hmmm... one of those words I'm never entirely sure of :)

Well. there you go, perhaps the most uninspiring disc I've entered.

(Had some mushrooms or something growing on it too, when I got it :)

Lots of studio noise and chit chat, for a very rough recording: Abide With Me (Unkown Choir)

Thanks xiph,

Once I've recorded, ripped, re-speeded it and have heard what's on it, I'll enter mine... although I doubt I'll be able to enter it as any particular artist.

I found one of these yesterday... same label and size, but with no writing on it.

I didn't know till I tried to play it earlier it was a 78rpm, but even at that speed, I am able to make out that the song on it is "Abide With Me" (With what sounds like distortion on it at the start).

It has the green "etched" EMI Emidisc logo on the back, but didn't think it was an "acetate", as I thought they had metal plates in them, and so were heavy. Mine is just vinyl.

Is this the type of thing that someone would just pay to go into a small studio or booth to record something like a message to send to someone in the post... or does the Emidisc logo mean that it was some kind of actual EMI artist?

Ah, made a bit of a boob in entering this....

...I didn't realise Broadcast Twelve was a separate label from Broadcast twelve Super, so this will have to be corrected to be put under Broadcast Twelve Super instead.

-Sorry peeps -

I know you like the matrix info on these, so this disc has:

Side1: A 11974-2 .... and: 3259A (and what looks like an upside-down "5", on it's own)
Side 2: A 11975-2 * .... and 3259B (and the "5" again)

-That is an asterisk that is stamped on side 2 next to the first number sequence -

This label, and these artists sound like they have a real story to tell, and could be the basis of a music documentary.

Well stone the proverbial crows!

....It worked!

Imported my CD recording (played at 45rpm) into Audacity, then simply highlt the track, selected: "Effect" > "Change Speed", then selected the two elements in the drop-down boxes:

a) recording speed (45), then: b) desired speed (78).

then finally exported the file as mp3.

I like it when things are simple... and work the way you want them to! :)

And seems like my policy of just grabbing anything that looks interesting pays off, as the info and links you posted, xiph, may make this the most interesting record I've ever bought!

(Thanks for that)

Hear it here, enjoy.

((only did the A-side...and it's a bit "hissy", as I forgot to clean it before recording...doh))

I was quite pleased to find it... everything about it is intriguing.

Any ideas about the Who, What, Why, When, and Where-fores of this label / artist etc?

Can't seem to find much on the net about these things.

Elvis Presley - Rip It Up / Baby Let's Play House (1957)
Thanks Xiph... I'm going to give that a go.

...After all, it's either have a stab at repair on throw it in the bin.

I've been circling this disc like a boxer stalking his opponent these last couple of days, and it just makes me depressed every time I look at it, as but for large semi-circular piece that broke away, the disc (surface, grooves, and labels) are pretty much tip-top, and even has the original paper sleeve.

-As a side note- I can't even play 78s at the moment... I'd always said to myself, that if I ever found a Presley one, I could justify buying a proper player to myself... and promised myself I would do so, and then this happens!!!

AAaaaarrrggghhh!!!!!

Found a very good copy of this yesterday... got it home, laid it on the table...

...and it broke.

I'm gutted.

It's just a single piece that broke cleanly away, so is there any way to fix these if this happens?

Or are shellacs done for if they break like this?

Help!

Crumbs... I'll let you break the news to the Cat-ers that the 45 entry is wrong way up then,

(while I hide behind the Sofa when all the fur starts flying).

One thing's for sure... got to be the most notable B-side in history!

Think I'll hold off the linking of other 45s and 78s for now then, as this sure to be an issue with others.

Elvis Presley - I Forgot To Remember To Forget / Mystery Train (1955)
Well I'm wondering if that is necessarily so, as if the 78 was released first, with the one side regarded as the A (or both as time went on), then the release of the 45 may be regarded as having the other side regarded as the A upon it's issue...in which case, it may in fact be correct to list the 78 as having one side as the A, and the 45 as having the other side as it's A.

(Blimey, and I thought these five would be a simple test of linking 45s and 78s!)

So is the 45 wrong then?

...or was this regarded as the A side until the 45 came out, then the other side regarded as the A?

(If you get my drift).
