mister_tmg 8th Mar 2019 | | 78 RPMJack Payne - Love Me To-Night / While We Danced At The Mardi Gras (1932) | "Love Me To-Night" was pressed with both Take 1 and Take 3 on different copies (I think the copy I've seen is take 3).
"While We Danced At The Mardi Gras" was pressed with Take 2 and Take 3 on different copies - the only copy I have seen has take 3. If anyone has different takes on their copy, it would be interesting to know.

mister_tmg 8th Mar 2019 | | 78 RPMBob And Alf Pearson - The Woodpecker Pecks At The Wood, Wood, Wood. (1951) | This is a different take than the commercially issued 78, as indicated by the master numbers and confirmed by listening to a copy.
mister_tmg 28th Feb 2019 | | 78 RPMDorothy Squires - A Tree In The Meadow / Kiss Me Once, Kiss Me More (1948) | Of the recording? It's been issued on CD quite a few times. The 78 isn't particularly hard to find either.
mister_tmg 8th Feb 2019 | | 78 RPMThe Five Smith Brothers - So Long / I Ain't Gonna Grieve (1951) | "I Ain't Gonna Grieve" was composed by John Jerome and Bob Vernon. The latter is a pseudonym for Bob and Alf Pearson. They also wrote and published the song "Bonnie Scotland" in 1956 with Les Murray, but I can't trace any recordings of it.

mister_tmg 5th Feb 2019 | | 78 RPMJohnny Kidd And The Pirates - Linda Lu / Let's Talk About Us (1961) | Auction link
mister_tmg 5th Feb 2019 | | 78 RPMJohnny Kidd And The Pirates - Shakin' All Over / Yes Sir That's My Baby (1960) | £366 on eBay!
mister_tmg 4th Feb 2019 | | 78 RPMConnie Francis - Stupid Cupid / Lipstick On Your Collar | I thought the Golden Circle 78 series was genuine. The Jimmy Jones one does have a KGC number. According to eBay listings, they were pressed in the 1980s on vinyl for jukebox operators.
mister_tmg 4th Feb 2019 | | 78 RPMJohnny Kidd And The Pirates - Shakin' All Over / Yes Sir, That's My Baby (1960) | Nice to see they used the vintage HMV label.
mister_tmg 2nd Feb 2019 | | 78 RPMGeorge Formby - Sitting On The Ice At The Ice Rink (1933) | GB 5532 -1 · Sitting On The Ice In The Ice Rink · Rejected
GB 5532 -2 · Sitting On The Ice In The Ice Rink · issued on F 3458 · X 1154 · 9887 · K 714
I think this could be a vinyl test pressing, not an acetate.
mister_tmg 2nd Feb 2019 | | 78 RPMAmbrose - My Dream Memory | MB 522-2A on this pressing but probably the same take.
mister_tmg 2nd Feb 2019 | | 78 RPM[no artist listed] - Room 504 | Auction link
Rather strange that there's a piano version of the same master issued with an orchestra. A test version would surely have a different matrix number.
mister_tmg 1st Feb 2019 | | 78 RPMArthur Lally - Dance Of The Cuckoos | Also pressed with a plain white label.
mister_tmg 1st Feb 2019 | | 78 RPMFred Elizalde - If Anything Happened To You | This record came out on both Octacros and Metropole. Octacros was taken over by Decca, so I imagine they must have also taken over Metropole and its masters, hence ending up in the Decca catalogue and being pressed onto vinyl amongst this run of one-sided test discs. Metropole. Both Octacros and Metropole used Piccadilly masters, so I think we can assume those ended up at Decca too.

mister_tmg 30th Jan 2019 | | 78 RPMVera Lynn - It's A Sin To Tell A Lie | This was listed on eBay as It's A Sin To Tell A Lie by Vera Lynn with matrix H632-2. However, the label actually says H. 623-2. H-623-1 was Some Of These Days by The Swing Rhythm Boys (Jay Wilbur) with vocal by Jack Cooper, recorded September 10, 1936 and issued on Crown 236.

mister_tmg 30th Jan 2019 | | 78 RPMTrumbauer - Diga Diga Doo | I imagine this was pressed by British Decca in the 60s and 70s amongst the many 'test' records they made from their metal masters. This would have been in their library.
mister_tmg 29th Jan 2019 | | 78 RPMCasani Club Orchestra - Here's Love In Your Eye / When My Dreamboat Comes Home (1937) | A-side vocal by George Barclay.
F-2134-2
B-side vocal by Vera Lynn.
F-2135-1
Recorded January 1937
mister_tmg 29th Jan 2019 | | 78 RPMVera Lynn - Heart To Heart | Another copy is matrix H633, which is probably also take 1. Blank white label.
mister_tmg 28th Jan 2019 | | 78 RPMAmbrose - My Sweeter Than Sweet | The master referred to is the one on the issued 78, not this test pressing, which would have been made in the 1960s or 70s.
mister_tmg 27th Jan 2019 | | 78 RPMRoy Fox - Marta | There is also a white label pressing.
mister_tmg 27th Jan 2019 | | 78 RPMBob Howard - Throwin' Stones At The Sun | Probably from an American Decca master?
mister_tmg 22nd Jan 2019 | | 78 RPMEddie Cochran - Three Steps To Heaven / Cut Across Shorty (1960) | Thanks for the information. However, RIS notes the following:
All the other reported 78 rpm issues for 1960 have been verified, up to and including HLX 9190 (Johnny & The Hurricanes) which was notified as additionally available on 78 rpm to record dealers in early October 1960, along with HLD 9184 (Pat Boone) and HLP 9188 (Ricky Nelson).
There is a trade advert showing these three releases available on 78rpm. This was a month after their original issue on 45rpm (all came out in September), so it’s possible other records were issued on 78 after their initial release.
mister_tmg 20th Jan 2019 | | 78 RPMEddie Cochran - Three Steps To Heaven / Cut Across Shorty (1960) | That’s an interesting idea that the records were pressed for export. Unfortunately the list of countries still hasn’t been posted on the RIS website.
mister_tmg 20th Jan 2019 | | 78 RPMRoy Orbison - Only The Lonely (Know How I Feel) / Here Comes That Song Again (1960) | Well, the dealer never did get back to me but our own lorangrecords says he has this record. However, Paul Pelletier’s corrections to the London Singles catalogue says there is no evidence it exists.
mister_tmg 7th Jan 2019 | | 78 RPMThe Teenagers Featuring Frankie Lymon - Why Do Fools Fall In Love / Please Be Mine (1956) | This was the first debut single by an artist to reach #1 in the UK. Most of the preceding acts to reach #1 with their first hit were already quite well-established and had released at least one single before. I had thought that Al Martino might take the honours, as Here In My Heart was his first single in his native America. However, his Take My Heart was issued the same month, and has a lower catalogue number, so that takes precedence, strictly speaking. It's well-known that Whigfield was the first artist to enter at #1 with her debut hit in 1994, which was also her first UK single. Quite a few artists reached #1 with their first UK single before that, but none entered the charts at the top until she did.
mister_tmg 21st Dec 2018 | | 78 RPMPetula Clark - Fly Away Peter, Fly Away Paul / Who Spilt The Coffee On The Carpet (1950) | That is a shame. I think sellers should really know how to pack these things properly. When they do, it arrives safely. At least you were able to post the labels. Interesting variation! Are there matrix numbers stamped on the runout?
mister_tmg 17th Dec 2018 | | 78 RPMThe Midnight Merrymakers - The King's Horses (And The King's Men) / The Love Waltz (1931) | Thanks. It seems worth noting that Unison had the same catalogue numbers as the Broadcast series anyway. Unison was sold in Co-Op stores.
mister_tmg 16th Dec 2018 | | 78 RPMBennie Loban And His Music Weavers - Oh! Donna Clara / Just Imagine (1930) | Recorded December 1930. A-side vocals by Bob and Alf Pearson.
mister_tmg 16th Dec 2018 | | 78 RPMThe Midnight Merrymakers - The King's Horses (And The King's Men) / The Love Waltz (1931) | Is this definitely 658? I thought the Unison label series exactly mirrored that of Broadcast, and this coupling was on Broadcast 656. Broadcast 658 was Last Years Calendar/In 1930 by Stainless Stephen. Perhaps a label image would help. Vocal refrain on the Broadcast coupling was by Bob and Alf Pearson.
mister_tmg 14th Dec 2018 | | 78 RPMKay Starr - Comes A-Long A-Love / Three Letters (1952) | No, it was her first UK #1. “The Missing Charts” data is not ‘official’. I assume that’s what you’re referring to.
